The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, has taken another unsettling turn. Nearly five months after she was abducted from her Arizona home, a new ransom note has surfaced. The sender claims to possess video evidence of the kidnappers and is demanding payment in cryptocurrency.

The email, sent to TMZ, states the sender knows the identities of the people responsible for Nancy’s kidnapping. They claim to have a phone stored in a secure location that contains a short video of the “main guy” with Nancy on what was “probably her last” day. The sender also says the phone holds pictures of both kidnappers, along with their names, addresses, and phone numbers.

The Demand for One Bitcoin and the Promise of Proof

The anonymous individual is asking for 1 Bitcoin in exchange for the phone’s password. This is a notable shift from earlier ransom demands, which asked for millions of dollars in Bitcoin for Nancy’s safe return.

According to TMZ, the outlet has verified that this new email came from the same source who sent previous communications, as they referenced an old Bitcoin address and used a matching alias.

In the email, the sender described the contents of the phone, stating it would be “delivering them on a silver platter.” They also distanced themselves from an earlier tip about a burial site in Mexico, writing, “I am not the idiot who recently called in a tip about her burial site in Mexico.”

Background of the Case

Nancy Guthrie vanished from her home near Tucson, Arizona, on February 1, 2026. She was last seen when relatives dropped her off at her house after dinner. Concern grew the next morning when she did not show up for a virtual church service.

Investigators quickly determined foul play was involved. A masked person was captured on her doorbell camera tampering with the device around the time she disappeared. Blood found on her porch was later confirmed to be hers.

In the days following her disappearance, multiple ransom notes were sent to media outlets. An early note demanded millions in Bitcoin for her release, while a second note sent on February 6 claimed she had died and apologized to the family.

Savannah Guthrie and her siblings released a video pleading for their mother’s return after receiving those initial notes. “We received your message, and we understand,” Savannah said. “We beg you now to return our mother to us.”

Investigation Continues Without Public Suspects

Law enforcement has not publicly identified any suspects in the case. The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department continue to investigate Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.

The new demand note has been forwarded to the FBI. TMZ has also requested the sender provide a single screenshot of Nancy from the alleged video to prove the claim is authentic.

Despite the dramatic claims in the latest note, none of the sender’s assertions have been confirmed. The FBI and the Pima County Sheriff’s Department have not released any official statements regarding the new email.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips online at tips.fbi.gov.
