What Perfect Addiction Is About
The story follows Akihito Kuji, a college student who is obsessed with good looks and casual relationships. He cannot stand Sae Takatsuki, a handsome but distant classmate who always seems calm and confident.
Things reach a breaking point when Akihito gets rejected at a group date by a girl who is interested in Sae instead. Frustrated and angry, Akihito follows Sae to the hotel district, where he discovers something unexpected. Sae is gay and struggles with physical intimacy.
This discovery changes everything between them. Akihito, who initially just wanted to confront Sae, finds himself drawn into a complicated relationship that challenges both of their boundaries.
The series is part of the BALLOON Project, a collaborative initiative by Imagica Infos, Dai Nippon Printing, CYBIRD, and BLUE RIGHTS that focuses on producing light anime adaptations of Boys’ Love works. The original manga ranked first in the Romantic Comedy category at the BL Award 2025.
Episode 1 to 3 Recap
Episode 1 introduced viewers to Akihito and Sae. The premiere established Akihito’s personality as a looks-obsessed college student who enjoys casual relationships. It also showed his strong dislike for Sae, who seems to have everything Akihito wants. The episode ended with Akihito discovering Sae’s secret.
Episode 2 continued to develop the tension between the two characters. Akihito’s frustration grew as he realized the girl he was interested in only had eyes for Sae. The episode also showed more of Sae’s personality and the walls he has built around himself.
Episode 3 moved the story forward as Akihito followed Sae to the hotel district. There, he witnessed Sae arguing with another man and saw a vulnerable side of Sae that he had never seen before. This moment pushed Akihito to act impulsively.
What Happened in Episode 4
Episode 4 aired on July 29, 2026. In this episode, the tension between Akihito and Sae continued to build. After Akihito forcefully pushed Sae down in the previous episode, episode 4 explored the consequences of that charged encounter.
Sae’s unexpected reaction to Akihito’s actions caused both of them to lose control. The episode showed them both struggling with their insecurities and testing their boundaries. By the end of the episode, their relationship had entered new and uncertain territory.
What to Expect in Episode 5
Episode 5 airs on August 5, 2026. While the episode title and specific plot details have not been officially released, the series is expected to continue adapting the original manga story.
