A new documentary series on Discovery Channel has created quite a stir. The show called “Declassified: Operation Sindoor” looks at India’s military response to the 2025 Pahalgam terror attack. The series premiered on August 15, 2026, which was India’s Independence Day.
What makes this documentary different is the reaction it got. The Pakistan Armed Forces issued a statement at 2:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, to criticize the show. The military’s spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, posted on X (formerly Twitter) in the middle of the night to express his displeasure.
The documentary features interviews with top Indian officials including National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. It gives a detailed account of what happened during the 88-hour military operation.
What the Documentary Covers
The two-part series has two 45-minute episodes titled “The Greenlight” and “Attack and Counterstrike”. The show explains how India planned and carried out Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Pahalgam attack happened on April 22, 2025, in Baisaran, which is often called ‘mini Switzerland’. 26 tourists lost their lives in that attack, including one person from Nepal. The Resistance Force (TRF), which is connected to the Pakistan-based group Lashkar-e-Taiba, said they were responsible.
India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, in response to the attack. The operation lasted for about four days until a ceasefire was agreed on May 10.
The documentary includes first-hand accounts from people who were in India’s war rooms and on the frontlines. Former Indian Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai appears in the show. He shares details about how the Pakistani side asked for a ceasefire.
“You fired so many BrahMos missiles at us. You should be satisfied by now. Why don’t we stop this war?” – Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, recalling what the Pakistani officer told him
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval also speaks in the documentary. He says that Pakistan repeatedly asked to stop the fighting.
“They requested us again and again. They said, ‘Enough is enough. You have caused a lot of damage. Now agree to a ceasefire,’ and we accepted it.” – Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor
The documentary also shares details about the air operations. Former Indian Air Force Vice Chief Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari says that within 15 to 20 minutes, 40 to 50 aircraft from both sides were in the air.
Pakistan’s Strong Reaction
The Pakistani military did not take the documentary lightly. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, who is the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), posted a detailed response on X.
He called the documentary a mix of “tragedy and comedy”. Sharif accused the makers of using selective interviews, emotional narration, and Bollywood-style scenes to change the facts.
“Selectively edited interviews, emotional narration and cinematic Bollywood style reconstruction have been used to alter established facts and rewrite the operational outcome.” – Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif, Pakistan Armed Forces spokesperson
The Pakistani spokesperson said that India has not shared the real truth. He claimed that India made a propaganda video to show a military failure as a success.
“India has not declassified the truth. It has cobbled together a propaganda video to project a military blunder as a successful endeavour.” – Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif
He also said that no amount of cinematic work can change what really happened during the conflict.
“No amount of cinematic reconstruction can change the chronology, erase aircraft losses, conceal military casualties, alter the military engagements that actually took place or convert a battlefield defeat into a self-proclaimed victory.” – Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif
The Dispute Over What Happened
The documentary and Pakistan’s response show two very different versions of events.
Pakistan claims that during the four-day conflict, its military shot down eight Indian aircraft. India has rejected these claims.
Pakistan also questions India’s claim of “100 percent mission success”. The ISPR statement pointed to what it called contradictions in India’s own account. Pakistan says the fighting stopped after talks between the DGMOs of both countries, not because India won.
Pakistan uses its own name for the conflict, calling it “Marka-e-Haq”. The Pakistani spokesperson said that India refuses to face what they call the “harsh reality” of the conflict.
“More than a year after Marka-e-Haq, India refuses to face the harsh reality. Instead of conceding defeat in a failed venture, India has decided to colour history in her preferred hues.” – Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif

Why This Documentary Matters
This is not just another documentary. The fact that a senior military official from another country felt the need to respond at 2 AM shows how significant this show is.
The documentary has brought back attention to events that happened more than a year ago. Experts say it has touched a sensitive topic that Pakistan’s establishment would rather forget.
The response from Pakistan also shows how information and media have become part of modern conflicts. Both sides use documentaries, social media, and other platforms to share their version of events.
The show provides a detailed account of the 88-hour operation from India’s perspective. It includes information about missile strikes, air operations, and the ceasefire talks.
For viewers who want to understand what happened during that tense time in May 2025, this documentary offers a comprehensive look. It features the people who made the decisions and carried out the operations.
The reaction from Pakistan adds another layer to the story. It shows how documentaries can have an impact beyond just entertainment. Sometimes they can stir strong reactions from people in positions of power.
