Rising South Korean actor Hong Mingi, known for his role in the hit k-drama Study Group, is at the center of a serious controversy. On August 19, 2026, an influencer with about 20,000 followers, identified as “A,” came forward with shocking claims against the 24-year-old actor. She accused him of dating violence, physical assault, threats, privacy invasion, and even animal abuse. The news broke just as Hong Mingi was preparing for the release of Study Group Season 2, sending shockwaves through the K-drama community.
Influencer A Publicly Accuses Hong Mingi of Violence
In the early hours of August 19, Influencer A took to her Instagram Stories to share a legal document. The document, titled “Notice of Legal Action for Illegal Criminal Acts,” was dated July 28, 2026, and was sent through a law firm. She directly tagged Hong Mingi and his agency, Fable Company, in her posts.
The influencer claimed that during their relationship, Hong Mingi threw a soju bottle at her on the street, which shattered and caused her severe fear and mental shock. She also alleged that he physically assaulted her by striking her shoulder, pushing her, and grabbing her neck.
A further stated that Hong Mingi made around 40 phone calls to her when her phone was turned off, suspecting she was cheating with her ex-boyfriend. During a meeting, he reportedly threatened, “If I found you, I was going to kill you both,” and “I’m going to kill that bastard”.
Additional Allegations Including Privacy Invasion and Pet Abuse
The accusations did not stop there. Influencer A claimed that Hong Mingi invaded her privacy by secretly checking her mobile phone and KakaoTalk messages without her consent. She also alleged that he drove an electric scooter while under the influence of alcohol with her on it, causing an accident that left her with serious injuries.
Perhaps most disturbing were the claims regarding Hong Mingi’s pet dog, Leo. A alleged that although Hong Mingi often posted pictures of his dog on social media, he actually kicked the animal and verbally abused it. She claimed that after she sent the legal notice, he left the dog alone at home for days and cut off contact.
A also detailed emotional abuse, saying Hong Mingi made misogynistic remarks such as, “Women are most delicious in their early 30s, and after that, they become aunts,” “Women should also go to the military,” and “Men are heaven, and women are earth”. She claimed he belittled her and other actresses, and even used profanity toward fellow actors and staff.
She further alleged that Hong Mingi blamed her for his mental health issues, saying things like, “My mental illness relapsed because of you,” “I want to die,” and “Let’s die together”. She said she felt guilty and visited his home multiple times to kneel and apologize. Even after their breakup, she claimed he forced himself on her and touched her body without consent.
Agency Denies Allegations, Says Claims Are Not True
Hong Mingi’s agency, Fable Company, has responded to the serious accusations. They stated that the dating violence allegations are “not true” and that they are “reviewing the details internally”. The agency also mentioned that they are organizing their response and will release an official statement soon.
