Jungkook of BTS has added another major milestone to his solo career. His debut solo single Seven featuring Latto has officially earned BRIT Certified Platinum status in the United Kingdom, crossing 600,000 sales-equivalent units, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) confirmed on October 1, 2026.

The certification marks the highest UK certification level for a K-pop solo release and places Jungkook among a small group of Korean artists to reach this threshold in one of the world’s biggest music markets. The song was released on July 14, 2023, through Big Hit Music.

What BRIT Certified Platinum Actually Means

The BRIT Certified system, run by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) , awards certifications based on combined sales and streaming data provided by the Official Charts Company.

For singles, the thresholds are:

  • Silver – 200,000 units
  • Gold – 400,000 units
  • Platinum – 600,000 units

This means Seven has been consumed more than 600,000 times in the UK through paid downloads, physical copies, and audio and video streams. The certification reflects cumulative consumption over time, not just first-week sales or a short chart run.

A Full Circle Moment for Jungkook in the UK

Seven did not reach Platinum overnight. The song’s UK certification journey started in November 2023, when it earned BRIT Silver for 200,000 units, becoming the first Korean soloist in nine years to receive a BRIT Silver certification.

In March 2025, the single advanced to BRIT Gold after crossing 400,000 units, making it the first debut song by a K-pop artist to achieve Gold certification in the UK.

Now, with Platinum secured, Seven has completed the full BRIT certification ladder. The progression from Silver to Gold to Platinum over roughly three years shows the song has maintained a steady presence among UK listeners long after its initial release.

How Seven Performed on UK Charts

The UK success of Seven began right at release. The song debuted at No. 3 on the UK Official Singles Chart, which at the time was the highest debut for a Korean solo artist in the chart’s history.

It stayed on the UK Official Singles Chart Top 100 for 14 weeks, a record for a K-pop solo artist at the time. The song also debuted at No. 1 on the Official Singles Downloads Chart and the Official Singles Sales Chart in its opening week.

Streaming played a major role in pushing Seven to Platinum. The song has become the first track by an Asian artist to surpass 3 billion streams on Spotify, and it has spent 153 weeks on Spotify’s Weekly Top Songs Global chart.

The Song That Defined Jungkook’s Solo Launch

Seven was Jungkook’s first official solo single outside BTS. The track was produced by Andrew Watt and Cirkut, who co-wrote it with Jon Bellion, Latto, and Theron Makiel Thomas.

Musically, the song blends UK garage with pop, featuring acoustic guitar loops, syncopated percussion, and a catchy melody. Lyrically, it is a romantic track about wanting to spend every moment with a loved one. An explicit version was also released and later included on Jungkook’s debut album Golden.

“Upon hearing ‘Seven,’ I thought, ‘This is it.’ After that, I focused on practicing and recording the track multiple times to perfect it. I hope that many people can feel as I felt when I first heard the song.” — Jungkook, speaking to Variety

The collaboration with Latto gave the song a broader international appeal, adding a rap verse that connected with Western pop audiences. The track’s global performance included a No. 1 debut on the Billboard Hot 100, making Jungkook the first BTS member to top the US singles chart as a solo artist.

Global Certifications Beyond the UK

The UK Platinum certification adds to a growing list of international recognitions for Seven.

  • United States – RIAA Double Platinum for over 2 million units
  • France – SNEP Platinum in the streaming category
  • Japan – RIAJ Platinum in the streaming category
  • Canada – Music Canada Double Platinum
  • New Zealand – Platinum
  • Italy, Belgium, Portugal, Spain – Gold certifications

The song also holds four Guinness World Records, including the fastest song in history to surpass 1 billion streams on Spotify.

What This Platinum Means for K-Pop Solo Artists

BRIT Platinum for a Korean solo release remains rare. Before Seven, only a handful of K-pop acts had reached Platinum status in the UK, and most were groups or collaborations. Jungkook’s achievement with a debut solo single highlights how individual K-pop artists are building audiences in Western markets independent of their groups.

The UK is one of the three largest music markets globally, alongside the US and Japan. A Platinum certification there signals sustained consumer spending on a track, not just a viral moment. For Seven, the numbers show that UK listeners kept streaming and buying the song well beyond its release window, allowing it to accumulate the 600,000 units required for Platinum.

Jungkook released his debut solo album Golden in November 2023, which included Seven alongside singles like 3D and Standing Next to You. The album also earned a BRIT Gold certification in the UK in May 2026 for 100,000 units.
