South Korean actor Shin Seung Ho, known for his roles in Weak Hero Class 1 and Alchemy of Souls, will not be enlisting in the military. His agency confirmed he received an exemption due to a serious knee injury.
The actor suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in 2021 while working on personal schedules. He underwent surgery and later took the military physical exam. The results showed he was unfit for active duty, leading to his exemption.
“Shin Seung Ho underwent surgery for a ruptured ACL and was subsequently exempted from military service after the examination,” his agency KINGKONG by Starship stated. The injury happened during a drama production, but he managed to finish filming with the crew’s support.
In South Korea, all able-bodied men must serve in the military by age 28. Shin Seung Ho, born in 1995, is now 30 but will not enlist. Fans had expected him to pause his career for service, but his injury changed those plans.
The actor initially pursued a football career but switched to modeling and acting. He gained fame through shows like D.P. (2021) and Alchemy of Souls (2022). His performance in Weak Hero Class 1 (2022) further boosted his popularity.
ACL injuries are common among athletes and can take months to heal. Severe cases often lead to long-term physical limitations. Military service in South Korea requires intense physical training, making such injuries a valid reason for exemption.
Other Korean celebrities, like ASTRO’s JinJin, have also been exempted due to health issues. JinJin’s agency stated his autoimmune disorder made military service difficult. Shin Seung Ho’s case follows similar medical exemption protocols.
The actor has not publicly commented on the exemption. His fans expressed mixed reactions, with some relieved he can continue acting and others concerned about his health.
Shin Seung Ho is currently focusing on his acting career. No new projects have been announced yet, but fans are eager to see him return to screens soon.
