The clash between actor Lim Hyeon-joon and journalist Wi Jeong-sin intensifies in the latest episodes of Nice to Not Meet You, but so does their unexpected connection. As their professional lives become more tangled, a secret friendship blossoms online, forcing both to confront their true feelings amidst new scandals and a shocking resignation.

A Forced Partnership and Professional Clashes

Hyeon-joon’s work life is turned upside down when his ex-girlfriend, Se-na, announces she will be joining the cast of the new season of his popular drama, Nice Detective Kang Pil-gu. Se-na openly claims she wants to rekindle their relationship, but Hyeon-joon is suspicious and angered by her sudden return. To secure his participation, he is forced to lay down strict conditions: no romantic storyline with Se-na, minimal shared screen time, and a guarantee that this will be the final season.

The tension spills over into his interactions with Jeong-sin. While covering a baseball game where Hyeon-joon is throwing the first pitch, their interview goes poorly. Hyeon-joon gives only brief, sulky answers, seemingly bothered by Jeong-sin’s friendly rapport with her boss, Jae-hyung. Later, when Hyeon-joon finally manages to apologize for previously mistaking Jeong-sin for a hostess, she rejects his apology. She confesses to her brother that she feared accepting it would make her expect kindness from him, a complication she does not want.

An Unlikely Online Friendship

A twist of fate connects the two rivals without their knowledge. Hyeon-joon’s brother uses his phone to sell promotional rice cookers on a marketplace app. Jeong-sin, in need of a new rice cooker, happens to be the buyer. Both masked during the exchange, they do not recognize each other.

To the anonymous seller, Jeong-sin feels safe to confess that she is a fan of Hyeon-joon. Flattered, Hyeon-joon plays along, and the two begin a daily text exchange, happily chatting as fellow Kang Pil-gu fans. This anonymous communication becomes a source of comfort for both, as they share personal details and complaints about their days, forming a bond that contrasts sharply with their hostile in-person relationship.

A High-Stakes Scandal and a Moral Crisis

Jeong-sin’s career hits a turbulent phase as she investigates a corruption scandal linked to Assemblyman Ha Gee-wan. Her informant reveals that Se-na is involved through her current boyfriend, Lee Dae-ho, who is also Jae-hyung’s older brother and the chairman of the company that owns Jeong-sin’s news outlet.

While Se-na refuses to discuss the corruption case, she offers Jeong-sin a different story: dating rumors between a senior actor and his psychiatrist. Jeong-sin pursues the tip and, in a coincidence, runs into Hyeon-joon at the same psychiatrist’s office. He reluctantly helps her follow the couple to a hotel, where she successfully gets photos. However, after she publishes the article, the actor holds a press conference to reveal the psychiatrist is his daughter, and he sues Jeong-sin for her report.

Hyeon-joon confronts Jeong-sin, accusing her of preying on people’s privacy. Wracked with guilt over her methods and the fallout from the article, Jeong-sin makes a major decision: she resigns from her job.

A Missed Call and New Complications

The fallout from Jeong-sin’s resignation is immediate. Her colleagues throw her a farewell party where she drinks heavily. Meanwhile, Hyeon-joon, feeling connected to his anonymous online friend, arranges a phone call. The call goes unanswered, as a drunk Jeong-sin is unable to pick up. Jae-hyung, who is helping her home, answers her phone instead, leading Hyeon-joon to mistakenly believe his favorite fan has a boyfriend.

The episode ends with both characters at a personal and professional crossroads. Jeong-sin is now unemployed and sued, while Hyeon-joon is stuck working with a manipulative ex and heartbroken over his anonymous friend. Their online friendship provides a glimmer of hope, but with their real identities still secret, more confusion seems inevitable.
