Former Saturday Night Live star Chris Redd made a raw and emotional confession about his time on the show. In a video posted on social media, Redd said he struggled with pills and sold them to fellow cast members . He also talked about his relationship with Christina Evangeline, the ex-wife of his former co-star Kenan Thompson.
The 40-year-old comedian said he shared his story to live with more openness . Redd was part of SNL for five seasons, from 2017 until his exit in 2022 .
A Candid Confession About Pills and Panic
In a video posted on January 6, Redd spoke directly to his followers about a difficult chapter. He talked while getting visibly emotional .
โBottom line is, while I was at the show, I had some pill issues, you know, some pill problems. Nothing too crazy, but crazy for my black a–,โ Redd said in the clip .
He went further, admitting he provided pills to others on the show. โI was even selling some to some of my castmates. Iโm not gonna snitch on yโall motherf—ers man,โ he stated . He did not name any of the cast members involved .
Redd also described feeling isolated during his struggle. He claimed he had panic attacks at work but did not feel supported . Instead, he said he overheard co-workers talking badly about him.
โItโs crazy how somebody would watch you destroy yourself,โ he added .

A major part of Redd’s video focused on explaining his relationship with Christina Evangeline. Public rumors about them dating began around the time he left SNL in 2022 . Evangeline was married to Kenan Thompson, the longest-running cast member in the show’s history, for about a decade .
Redd insisted there was no affair and no secret plan. He said Thompson and Evangeline were already separated when his friendship with her grew .
โShe was the only one to call me on my s–t, help me with my s–t, she helped me with my therapy journey,โ Redd explained . โAnd in that time, we fell in loveโ .
He called the situation an โemotional double-edged swordโ . Redd praised his professional partnership with Thompson, calling them โa great teamโ . He said he hates the idea of hurting someone he respects .
โI really love everything me and Kenan did, broโฆ and I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them. But I did choose love,โ Redd said, becoming tearful .
Redd claimed he and Thompson discussed the relationship privately and agreed to keep it quiet for about a year . He said things changed when the news became public.
The Timing of His SNL Departure
Redd’s exit from Saturday Night Live happened in 2022, which coincided with the public discovery of his relationship . In his video, he connected these events.
โBy the time everybody found out โ the world found out โ I was out of there, SNL, you know?โ he said .
His departure was announced ahead of the show’s 48th season . At the time, no reason was publicly linked to personal struggles or relationships . Redd also co-starred with Thompson on the NBC sitcom Kenan, which was canceled after two seasons .
Later in 2022, Redd was assaulted outside a New York comedy club . Some online rumors tried to link the attack to his personal life . In his recent video, Redd briefly mentioned the incident, saying, โThis time it felt like, fair. Fair enoughโ . He did not elaborate further on who was responsible.
