During his long imprisonment, he meets Abbé Faria, played by Jeremy Irons. The priest teaches Edmond and tells him about a hidden treasure on the island of Monte Cristo. After escaping years later, Edmond finds the treasure and becomes the wealthy Count of Monte Cristo.
