The first half of the 2025 Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube anime has come to a close. Episode 13, which aired on September 24, 2025, serves as the finale for the first cour of this new adaptation. Instead of a massive boss battle, the episode delivered something different. It put Nube in a vulnerable position and gave his students the chance to save him.
The new series, produced by Studio KAI, brings back the classic story of the teacher with the demon hand who protects his elementary school students from supernatural threats. The first cour ran for 13 episodes and set up the world of Dōmori Elementary. The finale did not end the story but instead set the stage for more adventures coming in January 2026.
Nube’s Life Is in Danger from a Strange Tumor
Episode 13 begins with Nube missing from school. His students notice he is absent for three days, which is unusual for him because he normally never misses work. The kids know he usually depends on school meals to get by, so disappearing means something is very wrong.
The episode reveals that Nube is fighting a supernatural creature called Jinmenso. This is a sentient tumor with a face that attaches itself to a person’s body. It slowly drains their life force and prevents Nube from using his Demon Hand. The creature makes a terrible laughing sound as it feeds on its victim. Nube got this infection while trying to save a young girl, showing his self-sacrificing nature.
The Jinmenso is extremely dangerous. Regular surgery cannot remove it. Only an exorcist can deal with it. But since the tumor is attached to Nube and stopping his powers, he cannot help himself.
Students Take Action to Rescue Their Teacher
With Nube unable to fight, his students step up to save him. This is a big change from the usual setup where Nube protects the children. The kids show they care just as much about him.
Katsuya comes up with a risky plan. He returns to Hatamonba’s shrine to get a cursed sword that tried to kill him in an earlier episode. Going back to this spirit is dangerous because Hatamonba is a powerful yokai that previously caused trouble. But Katsuya knows the sword might be their only chance to cut through the Jinmenso.
Hiroshi also plays a key role. He acts as bait, letting Hatamonba chase him around so the spirit will slice off the tumor when it gets the chance. The plan works, and the students successfully remove the Jinmenso from Nube.
Miki surprises everyone by showing she still has her Rokurokubi powers. She can stretch her neck, which helps the group during the fight. This ability first appeared earlier in the season, and its return shows the series keeps track of its own continuity.
Allies Appear as New Threats Loom
After Nube is saved, the episode does not just end with a happy reunion. The final moments show something brewing in the town. Nube’s hand begins to twitch with electricity. Dark storm clouds gather overhead. The camera shows what look like multiple new enemies appearing across the city.
Tamamo, Yukime, and the Zashiki-Warashi all sense that something is wrong. These characters, who helped Nube throughout the first cour, look up at the night sky, feeling the shift in the supernatural balance. Their appearance in the finale reminds viewers of the larger world the show has built.
The ending makes it clear that the first cour was just the beginning. The second half of the season will deal with bigger threats. The show is set to return in January 2026 with more episodes.
Voice Cast Brings the Characters to Life
The 2025 remake features a talented voice cast. Ryotaro Okiayu returns to voice Nube, having also played the character in the 1996 anime. Toshiyuki Morikawa also reprises his role from the original series. Having these two actors return gives the new show a strong connection to the classic version.
The students are voiced by a mix of established and newer voice actors. Fans have noted that the performances fit the characters well. The show also brought back Megumi Urawa, who voiced Makoto in the original 1996 series, to play Makoto’s mother in the new version. This kind of casting shows respect for the franchise’s history.
The first cour aired on TV Asahi’s IMAnimation W programming block. International viewers could watch it on the “It’s Anime” YouTube channel and other streaming services depending on their region.
