South Korean band FTISLAND will continue their activities with a different setup in Korea and overseas. In Korea, the band will promote as a duo with members Lee Hongki and Lee Jaejin. For activities outside of Korea, drummer Choi Minhwan will rejoin the group, making them a trio.
Addressing Fans
Lee Hongki, a member of FTISLAND, spoke about this decision at his birthday party on March 2nd. He acknowledged that some fans in Korea might not be happy with this arrangement. He said that the band respects these opinions and will reflect on the situation. Lee Hongki also mentioned that they hope to perform as a trio in Korea again in the future.
He explained that having a drummer is essential for FTISLAND. He added that while opinions on Choi Minhwan‘s situation may differ, the band believes it is important to move forward with him as their drummer for overseas activities. Lee Hongki apologized to fans for causing concern and assured them that FTISLAND will continue to work hard.
Controversy Last Year
The decision comes after Choi Minhwan was involved in a controversy in October of the previous year. Choi Minhwan‘s ex-wife, Yulhee, made accusations against him. Following these accusations, FNC Entertainment, FTISLAND‘s agency, announced that the band would temporarily continue as a two-member group with Lee Hongki and Lee Jaejin.
In December, police concluded their investigation into the allegations against Choi Minhwan. They found insufficient evidence to charge him, and the case was dismissed. Afterwards, Choi Minhwan issued a statement apologizing to fans and his bandmates, promising to be more responsible in the future.
Member’s Cryptic Post
Previously, Lee Hongki faced criticism for a post that seemed to defend Choi Minhwan during the controversy. In his post on a fan platform, Lee Hongki mentioned it was a private matter and urged caution against believing everything too easily. He emphasized the need to protect the band and move forward despite challenges.
Upcoming Performance
Despite the changes, FTISLAND is scheduled to perform at the Cherry Blossom Music Festival on March 30th. However, the performance will feature only Lee Hongki and Lee Jaejin as part of their domestic duo setup.
