The manga creator Syundei has deleted their X (formerly Twitter) account following severe online attacks. The harassment became so bad that the artist publicly questioned if there was any point in continuing to make manga. This happened just weeks after the anime adaptation of Go For it, Nakamura-kun! started airing on television.
Fans of the original boys-love (BL) manga series are devastated. The situation has caused other manga creators to speak up about how toxic online behavior is hurting artists. The criticism appears to come from viewers who are new to the series and disagree with certain scenes from the original printed version.
What Triggered the Harassment Against Syundei
The problems started when new fans discovered Go For it, Nakamura-kun! through the April 2026 anime premiere. Many anime-only viewers did not know about the original manga content. When they looked up Syundei past work, they found older illustrations and story moments that made them angry.
Critics pointed to two specific things. First, a “what if” drawing showing student Aiki Hirose with his teacher Sō Otogiri. Second, a funny scene from chapter 2 of the manga where the main character imagines Hirose with an octopus. Some international fans called these scenes wrong and said they showed bad relationships.
A Brazilian fan last year accused Syundei of drawing an inappropriate student-teacher bond. The artist answered back then to explain the teacher has no bad intentions. But the discussion came back stronger after the anime started.
One manga supporter explained the truth about these scenes online:
“It’s clear by context that this is just Nakamura’s imagination going wild. Hirose is fully clothed, the scene is by no means raunchy. It’s being played for humour and characterisation of the MC, not for sexual gratification. The teacher scene? Trying to be a teacher his students can rely on.”
Syundei Final Message Before Deleting Account
On April 12, 2026, Syundei posted a heartbreaking goodbye on X. The artist asked followers if it was okay to delete the account. Then Syundei shared honest feelings about the constant attacks.
“I only get complaints asking why I drew something like this, and since I don’t have the talent to make something that pleases everyone, I don’t see the point in continuing as a manga creator.”
“I thought I should offer a final farewell, but since I’ve been told to disappear as soon as possible, I’ll do it by noon [April 12].”
The account was gone by that deadline. Long-time readers rushed to send support messages, but the damage was already done. Syundei had already shut down other social media accounts including Instagram before this.
Fellow Manga Creators React to the Situation
Other manga artists noticed what happened and shared their worry. Yuu Toyota, who made Cherry Magic!, and Yuma Ichinose of No God in Eden both responded to the news. Mirai Machida, Yuiko, Michiru Nakayama, and Hyogo Onimushi from Return to Shironagasu Island also spoke up.
These creators said they felt disheartened seeing a fellow artist pushed offline. The situation has become a warning sign for the manga community. If fans attack creators for stories they do not like, more artists might stop sharing their work entirely.
Streaming Details and Where to Watch the Anime
The Go For it, Nakamura-kun! anime adaptation premiered on April 1, 2026. It airs on Tokyo MX, Tochigi TV, Gunma TV, and BS11 in Japan. The show effectively started at 12:30 a.m. on April 2.
Global audiences can watch the series on Crunchyroll. The streaming service offers the anime in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and the CIS region. Crunchyroll is also producing an English dub for the show.
The original manga has an interesting history. Syundei first published a short version in Akaneshinsha’s Opera magazine in December 2014. The full series began in June 2015, and the first compiled book volume came out in May 2017. A sequel called Go for It Again, Nakamura! followed in June 2017. Syundei started a new part titled Yurūku Ganbare! Nakamura-kun!! on Hero’s Web in April 2025.

Why Long-Time Fans Are Angry About the Backlash
Older readers feel upset because Go For it, Nakamura-kun! is actually a very gentle story. Many call it “chaste” and “wholesome.” The manga focuses on a shy boy named Nakamura Okuto who has a crush on his classmate Hirose and tries to get closer to him.
Fans say the people attacking Syundei are likely not BL readers at all. One supporter wrote online:
“If the love interest of the main character was a girl instead of a boy, would people create such a ruckus? I genuinely do not think so. This fake outrage is motivated by homophobia.”
The anime version actually removed some of the more playful scenes from the manga. But that did not stop critics from finding old material and using it against the creator.
Syundei also deals with health problems that make drawing difficult. This explains why volume 3 of the manga has not released yet. Instead of celebrating the anime success, the artist had to face a wave of hate during what should have been a happy time.
