Apple TV has released the first official look at Imperfect Women, a new series bringing together Emmy winners Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington with Kate Mara. The show is a psychological thriller about a crime that breaks apart a friendship spanning decades. The first two episodes will be available to stream on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. New episodes will follow every Wednesday.
The series is an adaptation of the novel by Araminta Hall. The story focuses on three women whose long friendship is destroyed by a terrible event. The show will look at guilt, punishment, love, and betrayal. The official description says the story explores “the compromises we make that alter our lives irrevocably”.
The Story and People Behind the Scenes
Imperfect Women was created for television by Annie Weisman, who is also the showrunner. Weisman previously worked with Apple TV on the series Physical. Author Araminta Hall is also helping as an executive producer.
The series is a co-production between 20th Television and Apple Studios. Lesli Linka Glatter, known for directing episodes of Homeland, directed the first episode. Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington are not just starring in the series. They are also executive producers. Moss produces through her company Love & Squalor Pictures with Lindsey McManus. Washington executive produces for Simpson Street alongside Pilar Savone.
Meet the Three Lead Characters
The story revolves around three women played by Moss, Washington, and Mara. According to Apple’s press materials, Elisabeth Moss plays Mary, Kerry Washington is Eleanor, and Kate Mara plays Nancy. The first-look image shows the three actors together, smiling and clinking glasses. This happy picture hints at the friendship before the crime changes everything.
The show’s official logline describes it as an “unconventional thriller”. It asks how well we truly know our closest friends. As an investigation into a crime unfolds, it reveals secrets that change the understanding of their friendship.
A Large and Skilled Supporting Cast
Beyond the three leads, the series features a large cast of well-known actors. Joel Kinnaman (For All Mankind) and Corey Stoll (House of Cards) have main roles. Leslie Odom Jr., famous for Hamilton, appears in a recurring role.
The cast also includes Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary), Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), and Keith Carradine. Other actors in the series are Audrey Zahn, Jill Wagner, Rome Flynn, Violette Linnz, Indiana Elle, Jackson Kelly, and Wilson Bethel.
Global Release Schedule for Viewers
Imperfect Women will be released worldwide on the same schedule. The first two episodes will arrive on March 18, 2026. After that, one new episode will be released each Wednesday. The eighth and final episode of the limited series is scheduled for April 29, 2026.
The series will be available exclusively on Apple TV. The service is accessible on many devices, including iPhones, iPads, Apple TV 4K, Mac computers, and popular smart TVs. A subscription costs $12.99 per month, and new subscribers often get a free trial period.
A Promising Project from Start to Finish
The project began when Moss’s production company, Love & Squalor Pictures, secured the rights to Araminta Hall’s novel. The official announcement that Moss and Washington would star came in March 2024. Filming started in Los Angeles in May 2025.
Bringing together two major stars like Moss and Washington is a significant event for television. Moss is celebrated for her long-running role in The Handmaid’s Tale, and Washington is famous for leading Scandal. With Kate Mara completing the trio and a skilled creative team, Imperfect Women is one of the most expected new series of 2026.
