The final season of Amazon Prime Video’s hit show The Boys is now streaming, and fans are watching the epic conclusion unfold. Among all the brutal moments and shocking twists, one character continues to stand out for all the wrong reasons. Chace Crawford’s character, The Deep, has been a part of The Seven since day one. But unlike other members who have shown growth or changed sides, The Deep keeps making the same terrible choices over and over again.

The show has given viewers several redemption arcs. A-Train turned against Homelander and helped The Boys. Queen Maeve found her conscience and escaped. Even Soldier Boy showed layers of complexity. But The Deep? He remains a selfish, cowardly, and morally broken character who seems unable to learn anything from his mistakes. With season 5 now airing, the question is not if The Deep will face consequences, but how brutal those consequences will be.

The Deep Has Refused Every Chance To Become Better

Throughout four seasons, The Deep has been given multiple opportunities to change his ways. His story started with one of the show’s most disturbing moments when he assaulted Starlight (Erin Moriarty) in season 1. After being removed from The Seven and facing his own traumatic experience of being assaulted, many viewers thought he might finally understand what he did was wrong. That never happened.

Instead of showing real regret or trying to make things right, The Deep only cared about getting back into the public eye. His time away from The Seven was not spent reflecting on his actions. He focused entirely on rebuilding his image and returning to fame. When he finally did recover the Flight 37 footage for Maeve, it was not out of goodness. He only helped because he expected something in return, which he got when Maeve raised his reputation with Homelander and Vought.

Each season has given The Deep a choice. Apologize to Starlight and help her in season 4? He chose to hate her more and tried to fight her. Refuse to kill a political rival for Homelander? He killed Lamar Bishop without hesitation. In season 5, when tasked with bringing in A-Train, The Deep did not stop at just chasing the speedster. He threatened to go after A-Train’s innocent family members as well.

Sympathy Does Not Equal Redemption For The Deep

Some viewers might feel bad for The Deep at certain moments. He was assaulted by a woman who touched his gills without consent. He clearly has deep self-hatred issues. He faces constant humiliation from Homelander and others. But these moments of sympathy do not make him a good person. They only explain why he is the way he is.

The difference between The Deep and someone like A-Train is huge. When A-Train had sympathetic moments, they showed there was goodness hiding underneath his fear and ambition. The audience could see his guilt about killing Robin. They watched him struggle with his brother’s health issues. Those moments built up to his eventual turn against Homelander.

The Deep’s sympathetic scenes work differently. They show a man who has every reason to understand pain and suffering because he has experienced it himself. Yet he refuses to connect his own suffering to the suffering he causes others. He should be able to look at Starlight and see someone he hurt the same way he was hurt. Instead, he doubles down on his terrible behavior. This makes him look tragic, not redeemable.

The Boys Season 5 Shows The Deep Getting Even Worse

The final season of The Boys is now streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes releasing weekly. The season started on April 8, 2026, and will run through May 20, 2026. The first two episodes dropped together, and subsequent episodes arrive every Wednesday. For viewers in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India, the show is available exclusively on Prime Video.

Early episodes of season 5 show The Deep leaning even further into his worst instincts. He has started hosting a podcast called “Manhandled” with Black Noir II. The show is clearly mocking the “alpha male” podcast culture that has become popular online. In the trailer, The Deep confidently calls something “beta male behavior” while Black Noir backs him up with a soundboard that shouts “Preach!”

The podcast setup shows that The Deep has not learned anything. Instead of growing or reflecting on his many failures, he has found a platform where his shallow and harmful ideas are celebrated. Posters and slogans around the set look exactly like the hyper-masculine branding used by real-world online influencers. This is not a step toward redemption. It is The Deep finding a new way to be terrible.

Erin Moriarty Wants Starlight To Deliver The Final Blow

The actress behind Starlight has made her feelings very clear about how The Deep’s story should end. Erin Moriarty told ComicBook that she wants her character to be the one who finally takes out The Deep. While she first said Starlight should kill Homelander, she quickly added that killing “the fish guy” is the bare minimum requirement.

Moriarty explained that Starlight killing The Deep would be a moment of “cathartic karma.” The Deep started Annie’s journey from a naive believer in the system to a hardened rebel. He assaulted her on her very first day joining The Seven. Since then, their paths have gone in completely opposite directions. Annie grew wiser, braver, and more principled. The Deep stayed a cowardly, vindictive creature who serves whoever gives him power.

The actress also noted that Starlight would not hunt The Deep down for revenge. That is not who Annie is. Instead, she said any killing would need to happen in self-defense after The Deep provokes her. “She can’t just go and kill someone. They need to attack her and it’s self-defense because she’s Annie, but she’s got to get someone,” Moriarty said.

“Listen, I personally, I think that as of this past season, all bets are off. I think that we had certain predictions, ‘I think she should kill Homelander.’ I don’t think that want or desire will or can be met. Who knows? But she’s got to at least get The Deep, let me kill the fish guy at least, bare minimum for God’s sake.” – Erin Moriarty to ComicBook

A-Train Could Also Be The One To End The Deep

While many fans want Starlight to be the one, others argue that A-Train should kill The Deep. The two characters have worked as mirror images of each other throughout the show. Both started as terrible people. Both were given multiple chances to change. But only A-Train actually grew and became better. The Deep only got worse.

A-Train taking down The Deep would complete his five-season character arc perfectly. The man who failed to change facing his final moments at the hands of the man who did change would be a powerful statement. It would show that redemption is possible, but only for those who genuinely want it and work for it.

There is also the possibility of a team-up. Starlight and A-Train could work together to take down The Deep. This would give both characters a satisfying moment while showing how far they have both come since season 1. Starlight has forgiven A-Train enough to work with him. A-Train has proven his loyalty to the good side. Together, they could deliver the justice that The Deep has avoided for so long.

The Deep Has Made Choices That Cannot Be Forgotten

Some viewers might argue that The Deep is just afraid of Homelander. They might say he does bad things because he has no choice. But that argument falls apart when you look at A-Train. He was just as afraid of Homelander, maybe even more so. Yet he found the courage to turn against the tyrant and help the good guys.

The Deep’s list of crimes keeps growing with each season. He ate a live octopus to keep his position in The Seven. He murdered a Vice-Presidential nominee so Victoria Neuman could steal the nomination. He helped kill three of Homelander’s supporters to use them as martyrs. He neglected his octopus girlfriend Ambrosia, cheated on her with Sister Sage, then broke her tank and locked her in a room to let her suffocate.

These are not the actions of someone who is simply scared and following orders. These are the actions of someone who enjoys having power over others and will do anything to keep that power. The Deep is not a victim of circumstance. He is an active participant in every terrible thing Homelander does, and often he takes the initiative to be even worse than he needs to be.

The Final Season Will Decide The Deep’s Fate

The Boys season 5 is the final chapter of this story. Eric Kripke, the show’s creator, has said there will be many deaths in these last episodes. No one is guaranteed to survive. The Deep’s story needs to end in a way that matches who he has always been. He should go out as a tragic coward, not a redeemed hero.

Many predictions suggest The Deep will die at Homelander’s own hands. Despite following every order and licking every boot, The Deep has never been truly respected by Homelander. The tyrant sees him as a joke, a useful idiot who can be thrown away when no longer needed. Having Homelander kill The Deep would show that all his betrayal of his own morals was for nothing. He sold his soul to a master who never cared about him.

The Deep has always been beyond saving. Not because redemption is impossible in The Boys universe. The show has proven that people can change. A-Train, Maeve, and even Ashley Barrett have shown growth. The Deep remains beyond saving because he refuses to be saved. Every chance he gets to be better, he chooses to be worse. Every moment of sympathy only highlights how broken he truly is.

As season 5 continues to stream on Prime Video, fans will watch to see if The Deep finally gets what he deserves. Will it be Starlight delivering the killing blow? Will A-Train end his former teammate? Or will Homelander discard his loyal follower like a piece of trash? One thing is certain. The Deep will not get a happy ending. He has not earned one, and he never will.
