The future of the hit Netflix psychological drama The Beast in Me is generating significant discussion, with showrunner Howard Gordon openly considering possibilities for a second season. Though initially billed as a limited series, the compelling characters and unresolved thematic questions have the creative team contemplating a continuation.
What the Show’s Creator Has Said
In recent interviews, Howard Gordon has expressed both openness and cautious optimism about returning to the world of The Beast in Me. He confirmed that while nothing is officially greenlit, the potential for more story exists.
โAs long as Aggie is still roaming the planet and is a writer, I think there probably is a story there,โ Gordon told TV Insider.
He elaborated that the entire team had a positive experience making the show and would be open to reuniting for a second season if Netflix desired it and they could develop a story worthy of the first season. Gordon emphasized that any continuation would need to feel necessary and compelling for everyone involved.
A Potential New Direction Focused on Aggie’s Father
With the main storyline of Nile Jarvis reaching a conclusive end in Season 1, a potential second season would naturally shift its focus. Gordon has identified a specific character from Aggie’s past as a promising avenue for exploration.
โI am tempted by the character of her grifter father in some way,โ Gordon shared with TheWrap.
This character was briefly mentioned during the first season. We learned that Aggie’s father was arrested when she was just 12 years old, and that they became estranged after he later sued her, claiming she was profiting from his story. This complicated history provides fertile ground for a new psychological conflict, potentially forcing Aggie to confront a dark chapter from her personal history while she is still processing the traumatic events with Nile.
How Season One Set the Stage
The first season of The Beast in Me wrapped up its central mystery in a way that provides closure but leaves room for characters to evolve. Nile Jarvis was arrested after his new wife, Nina, recorded him confessing to the murder of his first wife. He was later killed in prison.
Aggie, finally confronting the full truth about the accident that killed her son, successfully published her book about Nile, titled The Beast in Me. The ending delivered legal justice while leaving deeper questions about culpability and legacy, focusing on how Aggie rebuilds her life and creative voice after these harrowing events.
The Official Status of Season 2
As of mid-November 2025, Netflix has not made an official decision on renewing The Beast in Me for a second season. The series was originally developed and marketed as a limited series, which often means a single-season story. However, Netflix has previously changed course with other limited series that demonstrated strong audience demand, making a second season still a possibility.
The final decision will likely depend on the show’s viewership performance on the platform in the weeks following its release, as well as the availability of the key cast and crew to reunite for a new chapter.
