The final season of The Boys is here, and episode 3 brings a major twist that changes everything for Mother’s Milk. Instead of reacting with anger or fear, MM does something completely unexpected—he laughs.

Season 5 of The Boys dropped its first two episodes on April 8, 2026, and the third episode arrived on April 15. The episode titled “We’ll Meet Again” reveals that Soldier Boy is actually unkillable, sending shockwaves through the team. For Laz Alonso’s character Marvin T. Milk (MM) , this news hits harder than anyone else because Soldier Boy murdered his grandfather years ago.

“You’ve Got to Find Humor Sometimes in Ridiculous Crap”

The moment comes when Sameer explains that Soldier Boy has V1 in his bloodstream—Frederick Vought’s first version of Compound V. This makes him immortal. While everyone else processes this terrible news, MM bursts into laughter and starts drinking.

“What’s going through his mind, basically, is just the audacity of thinking you can change something. It becomes comical that you think you’ve accomplished something, and then you get some news like this, and it’s like, ‘Of course he’s unkillable! Why would I ever think that wasn’t the case?’” – Laz Alonso to Gold Derby

Alonso explains that MM has spent his whole life planning revenge. Finding out his enemy cannot die makes all those years of planning feel ridiculous.

“You’ve got to find humor sometimes in ridiculous crap. That’s where he is this season. He has finally found the humor that we’ve never seen him be able to find prior to now. I don’t think we’ve seen M.M. laugh in any other season. He’s always this stress ball, trying to hold stuff together. And in Season 5, he’s drinking booze, smoking cigars, and cracking up. There’s freedom in that.” – Laz Alonso

A Different Version of Mother’s Milk

Alonso says playing MM in this final season pushed him in new ways. The character takes a turn that fans have not seen before.

“This season, I was challenged with playing a different version of Mother’s Milk. It wasn’t as easy as the other four because the other four, I already thought I knew who the character was, and in this particular season, he takes a turn. He’s not necessarily the most optimistic version that we’ve seen in previous seasons.” – Laz Alonso to Remezcla

The actor notes that every season brings new challenges for his character. This keeps the performance feeling real and new each time.

Sharing Cigars with Giancarlo Esposito

One standout scene shows MM spending time with Stan Edgar, played by Giancarlo Esposito. The two smoke cigars together in a bunker, knowing they might die at any moment.

“We’ve always been on opposite ends of the battle and here we are again, stuck in a bunker, probably going to get killed, and we have a man-to-man, human-to-human moment. But the scene ends reminding each other that, if given the opportunity, one of us will not be standing.” – Laz Alonso

Alonso describes working with Esposito as a dream. The two actors went through 25 to 30 cigars while filming that single scene.

“Playing tennis with a pro — we would be able to catch on very quickly and play on it.” – Laz Alonso on working with Giancarlo Esposito

The small details were not in the script. Alonso decided that MM would bite the tip off his cigar instead of using a cutter. This showed the money difference between the two characters without any dialogue.

How Real Life Mirrors The Boys

Season 5 of The Boys continues to reflect real-world events in strange ways. The same week episode 3 came out—which shows Homelander seeing himself as a religious figure—President Donald Trump posted a similar image online.

“We shot Episode 3 almost a year and a half ago, so there are moments that we are in disbelief when they align so closely to what’s happening in real life. We always jokingly say The Boys isn’t supposed to teach society anything — it’s supposed to hold a mirror up to it. But the mirror tends to be a little too accurate sometimes, and this is just one of them. It’s nuts!” – Laz Alonso to Yahoo

Showrunner Eric Kripke confirmed the episode was written and filmed before the election. He called it “troubling” how closely the show’s fictional events match real life.

Where Things Stand Now

Episode 3 makes it clear that Billy Butcher cannot kill Soldier Boy. The supe-killing virus that Sameer created is now destroyed. Homelander also learns about Soldier Boy’s return and seems worried.

Frenchie might hold the key to stopping both villains. While saving Kimiko, he tells Butcher that if Butcher touches her, he will not make more of something. This hints that Frenchie may know how to recreate the virus.
