The official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming limited series The Bombing of Pan Am 103 has arrived. The six-part show tells the true story of the 1988 terrorist attack that killed 270 people over the small Scottish town of Lockerbie.
The trailer shows the terrible aftermath of the explosion and the huge investigation that followed. It gives viewers a look at how Scottish police and US law enforcement worked together to find those responsible for the deadliest act of terrorism on British soil.
The Real Lockerbie Disaster Explained
On December 21, 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was flying from London to New York when a bomb exploded in the cargo hold. The Boeing 747 was at 31,000 feet when it broke apart over Lockerbie, Scotland.
All 243 passengers and 16 crew members died in the explosion. Eleven people on the ground in Lockerbie also lost their lives when parts of the plane crashed into houses. The disaster killed people from 21 different countries, with 190 Americans among the dead.
The investigation became the largest murder inquiry in Scottish policing history. The search for evidence covered 845 square miles across the Scottish countryside. Investigators found that the bomb was hidden inside a radio-cassette player that had been loaded onto the plane in Frankfurt, Germany.
What the Trailer Shows About the Series

Another line from the trailer states, “Until we catch who’s responsible, who’s to say it won’t happen again?” This shows the pressure investigators faced to find the attackers quickly.
The series follows the collaboration between the local police in Scotland and the FBI as they work to solve the case. Based on testimony from people who were there, the show tells the true story of how law enforcement from both countries joined forces.
