The fourth season of Invincible ended on April 22, 2026, and instead of another bloody battle, the finale titled โ€œDonโ€™t Leave Me Hanging Hereโ€ gave fans a quiet but heavy epilogue to the Viltrumite War. While the season delivered massive fights, the final episode focuses on the emotional and political fallout, setting the stage for a very different kind of conflict in Season 5.

Mark Grayson (voiced by Steven Yeun) returns to Earth after the war, but he is broken. He cannot stop imagining Thragg slaughtering his mother, Eve, and everyone he loves. The episode makes it clear that Mark is dealing with serious trauma. When he finally comes face to face with the real Thragg (voiced by Lee Pace) in the sky, the villain gives him a choice that changes everything.

Thragg reveals that the remaining 37 Viltrumites are already living on Earth. He tells Mark that humans are perfect for rebuilding the Viltrumite Empire through breeding. If Mark stays quiet and lets them blend in, no one gets hurt. But if Mark fights back, Thragg promises to kill billions and enslave the rest. Mark, knowing he cannot win another war on Earth, says yes to the deal.

Thraggโ€™s Respect for Mark Creates a Dangerous Truce

Lee Pace, who voices Thragg, explained the villainโ€™s thinking behind the deal. He said there is a measure of respect in the ultimatum. Thragg sees Mark as a powerful person and wants to see what he is made of. Pace added that Thragg does not know if Mark will become an ally someday, but for now, he is doing what he needs to do to rebuild his people.

The final moments of the episode show Viltrumites walking quietly among humans, starting their long plan. Mark is now stuck. He agreed to save lives today, but he might have sold out the future of the entire planet.

The Post-Credits Scene Reveals a Weapon That Could Kill Everyone

The real setup for Season 5 happens in the mid-credits scene. Allen the Alien is now the leader of the Coalition of Planets. He receives a recorded message from Thaedus, who is now dead. Thaedus reveals he created a perfected version of the Scourge Virus. This new strain can kill Thragg and all the remaining Viltrumites for good.

But there is a terrible catch. The virus will also kill Mark, Nolan, and every single human on Earth because human DNA is too similar to Viltrumite DNA. Thaedus tells Allen that Omni-Man knows the weapon exists, but he must never know that Thaedus wants Allen to use it. If Nolan finds out, he will stop it to save his family.

This leaves Allen with an impossible choice. He can wipe out the Viltrumites forever but kill all humans, including his friends, in the process. Or he can do nothing and let Thragg slowly take over Earth.

Fan Reactions to the Season 4 Finale

Fans on social media had mixed feelings about the finale. Many praised the character work but felt the episode was too quiet for a season ender.

“9/10 for the season. Episode 8 was good too. Great finale. Though I’m sure some, those of you who wanted to see more in a finale episode will be left disappointed that it’s a story-focused episode.” โ€“ Fan on X

“Hot take: I think Invincible Ep. 8 was a good episode, but a bad finale to season 4.” โ€“ Fan on X

Other viewers liked the setup for the next season. One user wrote, “I love how different the finale felt compared to the others and that we really got to sit with the characters. Season 5 couldn’t come any sooner.”

What the Comics Tell Us About Season 5

In the Invincible comics, the Scourge Virus becomes a major problem after the Viltrumite War. Allen spends a lot of time feeling conflicted about using it and the risks involved. The TV show is following this path, which means Season 5 will likely focus on the moral crisis between Allen, Mark, and Nolan.

The show has already made some changes from the comics. The timeline of the Viltrumite War is much shorter in the series. Mark was only in space for a few months instead of almost a year. This change makes his relationship with Eve different. In the finale, Eve tells Mark she had an abortion while he was gone. Her powers have returned, and she promises to stay with him, but the pain is still there.

Nolan and Debbie are also moving slowly. In the comics, they get back together quickly after the war. But in the show, Debbie is still hurt. She agrees to go to Talescria with Nolan to see Oliver, but she is not ready to forgive him yet.

Release Info for Invincible Season 5

Amazon Prime Video already renewed Invincible for a fifth season back in July 2025, months before Season 4 even came out. The creators are currently putting the final touches on the new season. Robert Kirkman said in March 2026 that they are getting final animation back and doing retakes. Voice recording finished a long time ago.

Fans in the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and India can expect Season 5 to arrive on Prime Video sometime in early 2027. Kirkman hinted it might come out in April or May 2027, but nothing is confirmed yet.

The show also added Matthew Rhys to the voice cast for Season 5. He will voice a character named Dinosaurus, who is a major threat in the comics after the Viltrumite War.

Invincible Season 4 is now streaming in full on Prime Video.
