Good news for Middle-earth fans. Prime Video has officially announced when The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 will arrive on the streaming platform. The show returns on November 11, 2026, ending months of waiting and rumors that suggested a possible 2027 release.
The announcement came during Amazonโs annual Upfront presentation in New York. The streaming service also shared a first-look image showing Charlie Vickers as Sauron wearing a dark, menacing crown.
Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television at Amazon MGM Studios, spoke about the showโs success.
โFrom the very beginning, this series has embodied the scale, ambition, and cinematic storytelling that define Prime Videoโs biggest global series. The extraordinary response from millions of fans around the world has made it clear that this journey through Middle-earth continues to resonate.โ
The show has drawn more than 185 million viewers worldwide since its first season launched in 2022.
What to Expect From Season 3โs Story
Season 3 jumps forward several years from where Season 2 ended. The new chapter takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. The Dark Lord works to craft the One Ring, which would give him the power to control all of Middle-earth.
The official synopsis from Prime Video states: โJumping forward several years from the events of season two, season three takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.โ
Showrunners have also confirmed that the season will begin showing the Fall of Nรบmenor, a major event in J.R.R. Tolkienโs books that leads directly to the War of the Last Alliance seen in the movie The Fellowship of the Ring.
Key locations expected to appear include Lindon, Khazad-dรปm, and the newly established Rivendell as major battlegrounds. The legendary sword Narsil will also make an appearance.

Season 4 Renewal Announced Before Season 3 Airs
In a rare move, Prime Video renewed The Rings of Power for Season 4 before Season 3 even premieres. This early renewal shows the streaming serviceโs confidence in the franchise. The show remains one of Amazonโs biggest original series and has helped drive Prime membership growth globally.
Season 3 will end a nearly two-year gap between seasons. The second season finished its run in October 2024.
