The wait is finally over. Prime Video released the final chapter of Good Omens on May 13, 2026, bringing the story of the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley to a close after three years. The third season is not a full series of episodes but a single 90-minute feature-length finale that wraps up the story that began with the 2019 debut.
Fans who watched the heartbreaking season two cliffhanger—where Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) returned to Heaven as Supreme Archangel and left a devastated Crowley (David Tennant) standing alone in the rain—finally got answers. The final episode, titled “The Finale,” picks up immediately with Crowley hitting rock bottom while Aziraphale tries to manage the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
How the Final Season Became One Long Episode Instead of Six
Good Omens faced unexpected changes during production. The show originally planned a full six-episode third season. But production paused in 2024 following allegations against Neil Gaiman, who co-wrote the original book with the late Terry Pratchett. Gaiman offered to step back from the project, and the team reworked the season into a single 90-minute movie to give fans closure.
David Tennant explained the situation simply. He told The Independent that leaving the story on a cliffhanger “would have been difficult,” so the team returned to finish the job properly. The final product still carries Gaiman’s name in the credits for story and teleplay, alongside writers Michael Marshall Smith and Peter Atkins.

What Happens at the Beginning of Season 3
The finale opens three years after season two ended. Aziraphale sits in Heaven, trying to organize the Second Coming with his team of angels. His plan includes a dramatic airplane appearance and a United Nations speech delivered in every language at once. But the other angels, especially Michael, openly dislike taking orders from him. Only Muriel (Quelin Sepulveda), recently promoted, fully supports Aziraphale.
Meanwhile, Crowley wanders the streets of Soho alone. He sleeps in dirty alleys and spends his days missing Aziraphale. The demon has lost his purpose and his will.
The reincarnated Jesus (Bilal Hasna) arrives on Earth confused. He does not understand where he is or what he needs to do. He wanders off and meets Harry the Fish (Mark Addy), an old con man who teaches him how to work a three-card monte table.
The Major Conflict: Murder and the Book of Life
The plot takes a sharp turn when The Metatron (Derek Jacobi) turns up dead. Someone also steals the Book of Life, a magical volume that can rewrite all of reality. Whoever controls the book can erase anything from existence.
Archangel Michael (Doon Mackichan) turns out to be the culprit. She uses the Book of Life to start burning pages, wiping out whole sections of the universe. Crowley manages to rescue only one single page from the flames. That one page saves just three things: Crowley himself, Aziraphale, and the bookshop.
As Michael burns more pages, Satan (Toby Jones) and God (Tanya Moodie) appear. They seem perfectly happy to spend eternity together in an empty universe, with just the two of them left.
The Ending Explained: How Aziraphale and Crowley Save Everything
Crowley asks God a simple but powerful question: “Why make people and then punish them for behaving like people?”
God considers this. Aziraphale and Crowley then plead with Her to restart reality. They do not want the universe to end. They want humanity to have a real chance. Surprisingly, God agrees.
She uses Her unlimited power to create a brand new world. But there is a cost. This new reality has no Heaven and no Hell. No angels. No demons. No divine punishment system. Just humans living their lives with true free will.
The creation process erases Aziraphale and Crowley from existence as supernatural beings. But their story does not end there.
The Final Scene: Two Humans Find Each Other
The camera jumps to the newly remade Earth. Aziraphale now exists as Asa, a nervous bookseller. Crowley exists as Professor Anthony Crawley. They are both completely human, with no memory of their past lives.
They meet inside a bookshop. Asa nervously asks Anthony out for a meal. The two go to a bar where other familiar faces now live as ordinary people. Jesus sits at a table having a drink. Adam, the former Antichrist, also appears as a regular guy. The camera lingers on a portrait of Sir Terry Pratchett on the wall, a quiet tribute to the co-author who passed away in 2015.
Then the show jumps 20 years into the future. Asa and Anthony are now a married couple. They live together in a cottage in the South Downs. They sit outside watching a shooting star cross the night sky.
Anthony looks at his husband and says: “I don’t need anything more than this. I have the universe out there, and I have you. I have everything I’ve ever wanted.” A nightingale sings in the distance.

Fan Reactions to the Final Season
The finale received mixed but emotional responses from viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, season three holds a 75% approval rating, making it the lowest-rated installment of the series. Some fans felt the shortened runtime compressed the story too much.
Reddit user WasteCalligrapher891 praised Michael Sheen’s performance, writing: “He was truly brilliant. You can really see why he was almost cast as Crowley.” Another fan, goldenphantom, compared Sheen’s work here to his role in the Underworld films, noting how different and layered his performance as Aziraphale has become.
Critics noted that some subplots felt rushed. Crowley’s storyline about winning back his Bentley from gangster Brian Cameron (Sean Pertwee) took up time that might have been used elsewhere. The crossword puzzle competition where Aziraphale wins the car back received mixed reactions.
But most agreed on one thing. The final scene worked. Watching Asa and Anthony find each other as humans, get married, and grow old together in a cottage gave longtime fans the happy ending they wanted for the angel and demon who loved each other for 6,000 years.
