O’Connor’s character decides to become a whistleblower. He wants to give “full disclosure” to everyone on the planet. But Firth’s character warns him that this truth will destroy the current world order.
The screenplay comes from David Koepp. He is the writer who worked with Spielberg on Jurassic Park and War of the Worlds. The movie marks Spielberg’s first alien film in over 20 years, following 2005’s War of the Worlds.
The trailer also teases a deep connection between the two main characters. It hints that they share a strange childhood event. This event seems to be the reason they are now central to the alien contact.
