The upcoming family comedy anime Uchi no Otouto Domo ga Sumimasen (also known as “Please Excuse My Younger Brothers” or “Sorry About My Younger Brothers”) is getting ready for its summer debut. The production team just dropped a fresh character trailer focusing on the youngest brother Rui Narita, giving fans a better look at the lively household at the center of this story. The show is scheduled to begin broadcasting in Japan on July 3, 2026.
New Trailer Shows Off Youngest Brother Rui Narita
The latest promotional video puts the spotlight on Rui Narita, the fourth and youngest son of the Narita family. Voice actress Momoka Terasawa brings this energetic character to life. In the trailer, Rui appears as a cheerful, popular, and high-spirited teenager who greets everyone from the family’s front entrance. His bright personality looks set to bring warmth and a bit of chaos to the Narita household.
Rui is described as an energetic and well-liked kid who naturally gets along with people. Being the youngest, he could serve as an emotional bridge within the family, helping to ease some of the initial tension when the main character enters their lives.

What Is Uchi no Otouto Domo ga Sumimasen About?
The story follows Ito Narita, a second-year high school student who has always been an only child. Her life takes a sharp turn when her mother remarries. Ito gets excited about moving into a new home with her mom and new stepfather, imagining a quiet three-person household. But things do not go as planned.
When Ito arrives at the new house, she gets a huge surprise. Her stepfather already has four sons. Overnight, she goes from being an only child to the older sister of four younger brothers. The four boys are:
- Gen – The eldest, seems responsible but has his own way of showing care
- Raku – The second son, calm and collected
- Syu – The third son, introverted and rarely shows himself
- Rui – The youngest, always full of energy and loves attention
The manga originally comes from Akira Ozaki and has been running in Shueisha’s Bessatsu Margaret magazine since January 2020. There are currently 14 collected volumes available in Japan. The series already got a live-action movie adaptation in December 2024, starring Mei Hata as Ito.
Broadcast Schedule and Episode Count
The anime will air for two consecutive cours (seasons), totaling 24 episodes. This longer run allows the story to develop the family relationships properly without rushing through the source material.

What Makes This Show Different
Unlike many fantasy or action-heavy anime coming out these days, Uchi no Otouto Domo ga Sumimasen focuses on everyday family life. The story deals with how a girl learns to become an older sister to four boys she never knew. There are no superpowers or world-ending threats here. Instead, the show promises small daily moments, misunderstandings, laughs, and the slow process of strangers becoming family.
The manga has built a loyal reader base over six years because it handles blended family dynamics with honesty. The live-action movie’s success in Japan also proved that audiences connect with these characters.
