The ₹370 biryani controversy refuses to die down. Veteran comedian Sunil Pal has now launched a scathing attack on Pranit More, the stand-up comedian at the center of the ongoing outrage. In a now-deleted video that has since gone viral across social media platforms, Pal did not hold back as he labeled More and performers like him as the “comedy ka kalank” (stain on comedy).
The controversy began when a video from Pranit More’s show in Gurugram surfaced online. In the clip, an audience member, Himanshu Jangra, joked about expecting physical intimacy from his date after spending ₹370 on biryani. Instead of stopping the conversation, More was seen laughing and even rewarded Jangra with a ₹5,000 cash prize. A separate clip also showed a female audience member, Dr. Sejal Pawar, making inappropriate remarks about a deceased man’s body.
‘Corrupting the Youth’: Sunil Pal’s Fiery Statement
Sunil Pal, known for his strong opinions on comedy ethics, expressed his disappointment in a strongly worded diatribe. He accused modern comedians of hiding behind the label of “crowd work” to spread obscenity.
“Comedy ke naam pe jo ashleelta kuch ladke ladkiyan mike pakadkar in dino darshakon ke saamne karne ki koshish karte hain. Isse unka ghar toh chal jaata hai lekin, humare desh ka Yuva ko bigaadne ka kaam karta hai (These days, some boys and girls try to pass off obscenity as comedy in front of audiences. It may help them earn a living, but it contributes to corrupting the youth of our country),” Pal said.
Pal went a step further, stating that he considers such entertainers “society’s terrorists” because their actions create a negative impact that is difficult to reverse.
“Isiliye main in logo ko hamesha samaj ka atankavadi kehta hoon (That is why I always call such people the terrorists of society),” he added.
A Call for Strict Regulations and Banning Offensive Shows
Sunil Pal urged venue owners to take responsibility for the content being performed on their stages. He insisted on strict guidelines that ban abusive language and vulgar jokes.
He also questioned the mainstream media and reality shows for giving a platform to controversial figures. Pal specifically pointed fingers at programs like Bigg Boss and Kaun Banega Crorepati, wondering why they invite comics who rely on “gali galoch” (abusive language).
“Aaj samaj aur hum jaise comedians dara hua aur ghabraya hua hai… ki inhe kyun Bigg Boss mein bulaya jata hai? Agar acche logon ko aap aage nahi leke aaoge toh issi type ka market banega (Today society and comedians like us are worried. If you do not encourage good people, this kind of market will keep growing),” he said.

As the backlash intensified, Maharashtra Cyber Police registered an FIR against Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, and Dr. Sejal Pawar under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the IT Act for promoting obscenity. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also summoned the trio, stating that the remarks trivialize sexual coercion and violate women’s dignity.
Facing the heat, Pranit More issued a video apology after restoring his deactivated Instagram account. He admitted that he “deserves the hate” and that it was a “lapse in judgment” for not stopping the audience member at that moment.
“I gave him a platform, which caused things to escalate. Whatever legal proceedings are happening, I am cooperating. Please give me a chance,” More pleaded in his apology video.
Meanwhile, Himanshu Jangra has already lost his job at a Gurugram-based firm following the viral clip.
