Seven years after its original release, Avengers: Endgame is coming back to the big screen with a new name and never-before-seen footage. The re-release, now called Avengers: Endgame Encore, hits theaters on September 25, 2026. This is not just another chance to watch the superhero epic. Marvel Studios is adding new scenes that connect the 2019 blockbuster directly to Avengers: Doomsday, which arrives on December 18, 2026.

Director Joe Russo confirmed the plans earlier this year at Scotland’s Sands Film Festival. He said the re-release would include footage set in the Doomsday story. Russo called it a “critical companion story” and a “setup for what you’re gonna watch in December when you see Avengers: Doomsday”.

What New Footage Does Avengers: Endgame Encore Include

According to reports from industry insiders, the new version of the movie runs about seven minutes longer than the original. The additional footage reportedly includes a brand new opening sequence, multiple bonus scenes, and an ending that leads directly into Avengers: Doomsday.

The new intro and bonus scenes are expected to add context that ties the Infinity Saga finale to the upcoming crossover event. But the biggest change appears to be the extended ending. Instead of a traditional post-credits scene, the movie’s final sequence has been stretched to create a direct bridge to Doomsday.

X user @Cryptic4KQual shared details about the additions, saying the ending sequence would lead directly into Avengers: Doomsday. When asked about post-credits scenes, the source said they had not heard of one being added.

Directors Explain Why This Re-Release Matters

Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, who directed both Endgame and the upcoming Doomsday, have been open about their reasons for bringing the film back. Speaking at the Sands Film Festival in April, Joe Russo told the audience why this re-release is different from typical theatrical comebacks.

“It’s critically important to re-release the movie, and, in fact, we’ll be re-releasing the film with footage that is set in the Doomsday story that we have added to Avengers: Endgame.”

He also described the project as an “opportunity to create a bridge from Endgame to Doomsday in a very unique way”. The director added that the movie’s massive success gives Marvel a rare chance to revisit one of its biggest films with meaningful new material.

The Russos returned to Marvel to direct Avengers: Doomsday after previously helming Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame.

Release Dates and Viewing Experience

Avengers: Endgame Encore arrives in theaters worldwide on September 25, 2026. This gives audiences nearly three months to watch the updated version before Avengers: Doomsday premieres on December 18, 2026.

The re-release will feature a custom introduction and a special end tag exclusive to Infinity Vision and IMAX screenings. Disney introduced Infinity Vision earlier this year at CinemaCon. It is a new certification for premium large-format theaters that tells audiences which auditoriums offer the biggest, brightest, and most immersive experiences.

More than 7,500 applications have been sent to Disney from global exhibitor screens seeking certification for Infinity Vision. The format debuts with Avengers: Endgame Encore.

How the New Footage Connects to Doomsday

Marvel’s decision to add new scenes to Endgame serves a clear purpose. The original film did not have a post-credits scene, making it one of the few Marvel Cinematic Universe projects without one. The re-release fixes that by extending the ending to show how Endgame leads into Doomsday.

The connection is especially notable because Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark and died in Endgame, returns to the MCU as the villain Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. The new footage could offer hints about how that transformation fits into the larger story.

Some theories suggest the extended ending might involve Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, whose return to the MCU has already been confirmed for Doomsday. Marvel has not officially confirmed what the new scenes contain, but the Russo brothers have made it clear that the additions are designed to set up the next chapter.

What This Means for Marvel Fans

For viewers who have already watched Endgame multiple times on Disney+, the new footage is the main reason to buy a ticket. With only seven minutes of extra material, the re-release offers between two and four additional scenes along with the extended ending.

The new intro, bonus scenes, and ending are expected to provide fresh context and possibly a first look at something significant from Doomsday. While some fans may wait for clips to appear online, others will want to experience the updated version on the big screen, especially in Infinity Vision or IMAX formats.

Avengers: Endgame remains the second-highest-grossing movie of all time. The re-release could push it past Avatar for the top spot. But for Marvel, the real goal is building excitement for Doomsday, which brings together heroes from across the multiverse, including the X-Men and the Fantastic Four.

The cast of Avengers: Doomsday includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Vanessa Kirby, Ian McKellen, Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, and many others. The film’s synopsis says superheroes from three distinct universes face an existential threat unlike anything they have encountered.

Avengers: Endgame Encore gives audiences a chance to see how the story that began with the Infinity Saga connects to this new threat. With the Russos back in the director’s chair and Downey Jr. returning in a completely different role, the re-release serves as both a reminder of where the MCU has been and a preview of where it is going.
