What Happened in Episode 16
Episode 16, titled “Turbulence” (攪乱), aired on July 20, 2026. The episode showed Yokoya completing a betrayal plan that Akiyama had designed. All the money from the “Country of Day” ATM was moved to the “Country of Night” ATM, leaving the “Country of Day” with zero funds.
Fukunaga stated that the “Country of Day” had no chance of winning from this situation. With the opponents already aware of the plan, betrayal could no longer be expected. Akiyama asked the trapped team members whether they had done this for the team. After hearing their answers, he declared that he had a plan to turn things around. He then became the inspector himself and approached Akagi from the “Country of Night” team, who had deceived the members.
Akiyama shook Akagi up and cornered him, making him talk about how the “Country of Night” team worked and the threat of Yokoya. A flustered Akagi began to explain how Yokoya had become the ruler.
The Story So Far
LIAR GAME follows Nao Kanzaki, a college student who is too honest for her own good. One day, she receives a mysterious letter and a suitcase containing 100 million yen. The letter says she has been chosen to join the LIAR GAME.
In this game, players must lie and trick each other to win money. If a player loses, they must pay back the missing amount as debt. Nao, who cannot suspect others, quickly finds herself in trouble. She turns to Shinichi Akiyama, a former con artist who just got out of prison. Together, they try to survive the game of lies.
The anime is produced by Studio Madhouse, the same studio behind Death Note and One-Punch Man. It is based on the manga by Shinobu Kaitani, which ran from 2005 to 2015.
