Kannada superstar Yash has finally spoken about the criticism surrounding his upcoming movie Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. The film has faced strong backlash ever since its teaser and song Tabaahi dropped online. Many people called the content “vulgar” and questioned how women were shown in the film. Now, Yash has addressed these complaints in a recent interview.
Yash Says He Has Not Even Kissed in the Film
During his appearance on the popular talk show Aap Ki Adalat, Yash was asked directly about the controversy. He was questioned about the intimate scenes and why his film was being called vulgar. The actor gave a straightforward reply.
“Vulgarity is wrong. Maine toh kiss bhi nahi kiya hain, agar aapne dekha hoga toh (Vulgarity is wrong. I haven’t even kissed, as you may have noticed). There is a certain line, and we understand that. You have to shoot things aesthetically, and what may seem visually appealing later is the impact of cinema. That is a creator’s voice.”
Yash made it clear that the team behind Toxic knew where to draw the line. He said they shot everything in a tasteful way. He also pointed out that cinema has the power to create strong visual impacts. According to him, those visuals come from the director’s creative vision.
The actor also explained that the film was made with a clear purpose. Emotions play a big role in the story. He believes that once people watch the full movie, they will understand what the filmmakers were trying to say.
Yash Explains Why ‘Toxic’ Is for Gen-Z
Yash did not stop at defending the film’s visuals. He also explained the core theme of Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups. He said the movie is meant for the younger generation.
“Toxic is for Gen-Zs. It’s for the conversations you guys are having, what problems you guys have with the seniors. Us generation ke baare mein aap log jo questions puchte ho usme kya galti hain, kyun aisa fixed rules hai, kyun aisa hi karna chahiye. (It is about the questions you ask about that generation – what is wrong with them, why there are fixed rules, why things have to be done a certain way).”
He said every older generation tends to think the younger generation is wrong. Toxic explores those questions. The film looks at why certain rules exist and why things have to be done in a particular way. Yash said these conversations are the main focus of the movie.
Old Interview of Yash Resurfaces Amid Controversy
The backlash against Toxic got more intense when an old interview of Yash went viral on social media. In that interview, the actor had said he would never do a scene that he could not watch with his parents in the same room.
During his appearance on actor Ramesh Aravind’s talk show Weekend With Ramesh, Yash had shared his personal rule. He said romantic scenes always made him nervous. He even recalled his first romantic scene during his television days.
“If I am not comfortable watching a particular scene with my parents in the same room, then I won’t do a scene like that. Mostly because it would get uncomfortable for many viewers.”
Fans quickly dug up this old statement. Many pointed out that the bold visuals in Toxic seem to go against what Yash had said years ago. This added more fuel to the ongoing debate.
Rishika Singh Slams Yash Over Nude Scene
The controversy took another turn when Kannada actress Rishika Singh (also known as Risheekaa Ssingh) came out strongly against Yash. She posted videos on Instagram where she criticized the actor for a scene in which he appears partially nude.
“Beauty is what truly suits a woman, but respect is what truly suits a man, my boy. Why did you have to drop your pants like that you absolute monkey? You have a wife waiting at home so what’s the need for flirting with actresses?”
Rishika also questioned how the female characters were shown in the trailer. She pointed out that the film has five female actors, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria, and Rukmini Vasanth. She asked why not one of them was shown in a respectful or beautiful way.
She added that she wants Kannada cinema to grow and reach international audiences. But she said she did not like the treatment of women in the Toxic trailer.
Kiara Advani Faced Backlash and Trolling
Kiara Advani, who plays a circus performer named Nadia in the film, also faced heavy trolling online. The song Tabaahi showed her in intimate scenes with Yash. Many social media users targeted her, especially because she is married.
Some people questioned why she agreed to do such scenes after marriage. They pointed out that male actors do not face the same level of criticism for similar scenes. Yash defended Kiara and praised her professionalism. Her co-star Nayanthara also spoke out against the negativity.
‘Toxic’ Gets ‘A’ Certificate from CBFC
Despite all the controversy, Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has cleared the censor process. The film received an ‘A’ (Adult) certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Kannada version was approved by the Bengaluru regional office on August 13, 2026.
The film has a runtime of 3 hours and 14 minutes. The ‘A’ certificate means the movie is only for adult audiences. This was expected given the bold content shown in the teaser and songs.
The Official Plot of ‘Toxic’
The film is a gangster drama set in post-independence Goa. The official plot summary describes it as a story about a gangster dealing with loyalty, morality, and personal redemption. Violence and jealousy are everywhere in this world. The film explores how far a person will go for love and finding peace in the middle of darkness.
Geetu Mohandas, a National Award-winning filmmaker, has directed Toxic. The movie marks Yash’s return to the big screen after four years. His last film was the blockbuster KGF: Chapter 2.
Film Was Delayed Multiple Times
Toxic was originally scheduled to release in theatres in March 2026. But the makers pushed the date because of tensions in the Middle East. The film was then moved to June. It got delayed again.
Now, the film is finally set to release on August 26, 2026. It will arrive in theatres worldwide. The movie was shot in Kannada and English. It will also have dubbed versions in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.

The controversy around Toxic has started bigger conversations. Some filmmakers have defended the movie. Anurag Kashyap said the backlash shows “cultural hypocrisy.” He pointed out that no one questions male actors when they go shirtless.
