Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has officially become the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time. The Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju romantic comedy crossed the ₹300 crore mark on its 24th day in theatres, overtaking Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra to claim the top spot. The film has now earned ₹304.95 crore worldwide, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
How Bethlehem Kudumba Unit Broke the Record
The record-breaking run reached its peak on Sunday, September 13, 2026. On that day, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit collected ₹4.60 crore net across 1,501 shows in India, with an occupancy rate of 63 per cent. The film’s India gross reached ₹170.95 crore, while its India net stood at ₹146.40 crore. Overseas collections added ₹134 crore, taking the worldwide total to ₹304.95 crore.
The previous record holder, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, finished its theatrical run with a lifetime collection of ₹301.41 crore. The Kalyani Priyadarshan superhero film took about 45 days to cross the ₹300 crore mark. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit reached the same milestone in just 24 days.
A key difference lies in the budgets. Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra was reportedly made on a budget of ₹30 crore. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit had a reported budget of ₹25 crore, meaning its worldwide gross has exceeded its production cost by more than 12 times. On its 24th day, Lokah posted ₹4.10 crore from 1,726 shows at 51.2 per cent occupancy, while Bethlehem Kudumba Unit earned more from fewer shows.
The Biggest Malayalam Film in Kerala
Kerala has been the film’s strongest market. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit earned ₹131 crore from the state alone, setting a new record for the highest Malayalam film collection in Kerala. The previous record was held by Vaazha 2, which had earned ₹129.55 crore.
Daily earnings for the film have not dropped below ₹2.3 crore on any day of its theatrical run so far. The film crossed ₹100 crore worldwide in just 5 days, ₹200 crore in 12 days, and ₹250 crore in 16 days. It became the fastest romantic comedy in Malayalam cinema to reach the ₹200 crore worldwide mark, with family audiences and women playing a major role in its success.
On BookMyShow, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit has become the highest-selling Malayalam movie of all time. The film has also become the highest-grossing film of Nivin Pauly’s career. Pauly is now the only solo actor after Mohanlal to have films in both the ₹200 crore and ₹300 crore clubs.
The Story Behind the Film
Directed by Girish AD, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit is a romantic comedy-drama with a runtime of 2 hours and 37 minutes. The film follows Ashley (Mamitha Baiju), a young woman who moves with her family from Mundakayam to a new neighbourhood in Karukutty. There, she finds herself drawn to Justin (Nivin Pauly), an older neighbour who is about 12 to 13 years her senior. As their bond grows, the film looks at love, family relationships, old memories, and the chance to begin again.
Director Girish AD previously directed Premalu (2024), Super Sharanya, and Thanneer Mathan Dinangal. Bethlehem Kudumba Unit reunites him with Mamitha Baiju after Premalu. The screenplay was written by Girish AD and Kiran Josey.
The cast includes Sangeeth Prathap, Suresh Krishna, Vinay Forrt, Roshan Shanavas, Shyam Mohan, Bindu Panicker, Srindaa, Parvathy Ayyappadas, and Meenakshi Raveendran in key roles. The film is produced by Dileesh Pothan, Fahadh Faasil, and Syam Pushkaran under the Bhavana Studios banner. Vishnu Vijay composed the music, Ajmal Sabu handled cinematography, and Akash Joseph Varghese was the editor.

The film opened to strong reviews from critics and audiences alike. Audience reactions on IMDb described the film as “pure happiness filled with love, laughter, warmth, and just the right amount of emotion.” Many viewers called it a “wholesome family entertainer” and praised the chemistry between the lead actors.
