Vishal Chaturvedi is following up the phenomenal success of his devotional drama Hanuman Ansh with a biographical film on the 16th-century poet-saint Goswami Tulsidas. The project, titled RamBola, was announced on Ganesh Chaturthi, September 14, 2026, by Mahaveer Jain Films and Chaturvedi himself. The director will write and direct the film, which explores the life, spiritual journey, and lasting cultural impact of the man who wrote the Ramcharitmanas and the Hanuman Chalisa. The announcement comes as Hanuman Ansh continues its record-breaking theatrical run, having earned more than 130 times its modest production budget.

RamBola Takes Its Name from Tulsidas Birth Name

The film’s title carries deep significance. Goswami Tulsidas was born as Rambola Dubey in 1511 in present-day Uttar Pradesh. Historical accounts state that he received the name Rambola because he spoke the name of Lord Ram as an infant instead of crying. He later became known as Tulsidas after receiving spiritual guidance and choosing the path of an ascetic.

Tulsidas is best remembered for composing the Ramcharitmanas, an Awadhi retelling of the Ramayana that made the epic accessible to common people across northern India. His other works include the Vinaya Patrika, Kavitavali, Gitavali, and Dohavali. The Hanuman Chalisa, his forty-verse hymn dedicated to Lord Hanuman, remains one of the most recited devotional texts in the world.

Chaturvedi and Mahaveer Jain Films shared the announcement through a joint Instagram post. The caption read:

“With Bappa’s Blessings, on this auspicious day, with humility and gratitude we bring to you RamBola. The Immortal story of Goswami Tulsidas. Written and directed by Vishal Chaturvedi. Produced by Mahaveer Jain, Vishal Chaturvedi, Amit Upadhyay & Raghuvendra Singh. Presented by Mahaveer Jain Films.”

Hanuman Ansh Success Makes RamBola Possible

The timing of the announcement reflects the extraordinary commercial performance of Hanuman Ansh. Released on August 7, 2026, the film opened with just Rs 10 lakh on its first day and struggled to fill theatres for its initial two weeks. Strong word-of-mouth praise on social media gradually turned its fortunes around, and the film began drawing large crowds from its third week onward.

Made on a budget of Rs 2 crore, Hanuman Ansh has crossed the Rs 200 crore mark in India and earned more than Rs 268 crore worldwide. That figure represents roughly 134 times its production cost, making it one of the most profitable Indian films in recent memory. The film surpassed the lifetime collections of several major releases, including Toxic, Mirzapur The Movie, and Haiwaan.

Hanuman Ansh is based on Chaturvedi’s spiritual memoir, Divine Detour That Changed My Life, which traces his journey from an unexpected visit to Kainchi Dham in 2006 to a life shaped by Hanuman devotion. The film stars Shobhinaw Satyaa as Neem Karoli Baba, with Chandan Anand, Nikhil Dubey, Anil Rastogi, Sugandha Malhotra, and Bhagvandas Patel in key roles. A Telugu version of the film was scheduled for release on September 18, 2026.

Tulsidas Biopic Follows a Planned Trilogy

Hanuman Ansh was always envisioned as the first chapter of a larger story. Chaturvedi confirmed that a sequel is in development, with plans to explore Neem Karoli Baba’s life from his birthplace in Firozabad through Agra, Mathura, and other locations connected to his spiritual path. The director has described the first film as “only the beginning of a grander canvas.”

RamBola represents a separate project within the same devotional space. Chaturvedi is not treating Tulsidas as an extension of the Neem Karoli Baba story, but as its own subject deserving of careful attention. The makers are positioning the film as a tribute to a figure whose words shaped Indian literature and continue to guide millions in their spiritual practice.

Production Team and Studio Slate

Mahaveer Jain Films is producing RamBola alongside Chaturvedi, Amit Upadhyay, and Raghuvendra Singh. The production house has built a busy slate of upcoming films. These include Naagzilla, directed by Mrigdeep Singh Lamba and starring Kartik Aaryan, and Yeh Prem Mol Liya, directed by Sooraj Barjatya with Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari in lead roles. Another project, White, is inspired by an event involving spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and features Vikrant Massey.
