BLACKPINK member Rosé has released her new solo single “New Trick,” a high-energy garage-punk track created in partnership with Apple for the company’s latest “Shot on iPhone” campaign. The song and its accompanying music video, directed by Dave Meyers, arrived on September 18, 2026, marking another major solo milestone for the K-pop star.
The Release Details and Where to Stream
“New Trick” became available on all major streaming platforms on September 18, 2026, at 8 a.m. KST. The single runs for approximately three minutes and is released under Atlantic Recording Corporation for territories outside of Korea. For fans in the United States, the track arrived on September 17 at 7 p.m. ET, while listeners in the United Kingdom could access it at midnight BST on September 18.
The song is not part of Rosé’s upcoming sophomore album, which is expected sometime in 2027. Instead, “New Trick” stands as a standalone single crafted specifically for the Apple collaboration.
A Garage-Punk Sound Built for Resilience
“New Trick” blends the raw, stripped-down energy of garage rock with the speed and punch of punk music. The track carries a clear message about pushing forward despite life’s setbacks and the difficulties that come with relationships.
Rosé co-wrote the song with Amy Allen, the songwriter behind her global smash hit “APT.” with Bruno Mars, and Andrew Wells, who previously worked with Rosé on her song “Stay a Little Longer.” Wells also handled production duties on the new track.
The lyrics capture that defiant spirit directly:
“Lovesick, I’ll pick my heart off the floor / New trick, watch this, I’m kicking the door / Get out, kapow, bitch, I know the cure / New trick, watch this, watch this, aw”
The song opens with powerful guitar chords and a shout-along chorus before shifting into a cooler verse where Rosé sings about the fleeting nature of love over bass and drums.
The Story Behind the Song
Rosé shared with Vogue that “New Trick” came together during a particularly hectic week in New York, just two days after she attended the Met Gala. At the time, she told Amy Allen that she had been struggling to connect with sad songs, which surprised her given how many emotional tracks she had written for her debut album Rosie.
“Ultimately, we successfully wrote something so not sad, and I think it is possibly the cutest thing we’ve ever made together… Maybe ‘Apt.’ is the cutest, but y’all can judge that for me!”
The singer added that she loved channeling that lighter energy in the studio. The pop-rock feel of the track also reminded her of the songs that soundtracked Apple advertisements in the 2000s, such as “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” by Jet.

Dave Meyers Directs the Music Video
The music video for “New Trick” was directed by Dave Meyers, a filmmaker whose credits include work with Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, and Sabrina Carpenter. Meyers has also previously directed videos for BLACKPINK.
The visual follows Rosé through a series of youthful, energetic scenes set against expansive outdoor backdrops. Guitars, skateboards, and sparks fill the video, all captured using Apple’s newest smartphone technology.
The Apple Collaboration and iPhone 18 Pro
The entire music video was filmed using the iPhone 18 Pro, which Apple revealed at an event in Cupertino on September 9, 2026. The new model introduces variable aperture control to the iPhone for the first time, a feature that gives filmmakers more control over depth of field and lighting.
Rosé joins a growing list of major pop artists who have participated in Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign. Previous participants include The Weeknd with “Dancing in the Flames,” Olivia Rodrigo with “Get Him Back!,” and Lady Gaga with “Stupid Love.”
The collaboration placed Rosé alongside these global stars, extending her reach beyond the K-pop audience into the broader international pop landscape.

Rosé’s Solo Career Momentum
“New Trick” arrives as Rosé continues to build on a remarkable solo run. Her debut studio album Rosie dropped in December 2024, and her collaboration with Bruno Mars on “APT.” peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The new single offers a different side of Rosé’s artistry compared to the emotionally heavy material on Rosie. She described the creative process as finding a balance between the world she wants to create and who she is evolving into as a musician.
