The first chapter of the final season has arrived, but the story is far from over. Stranger Things Season 5 is being released in three distinct volumes, and the next batch of episodes is just around the corner. After the cliffhangers of Volume 1, fans are eager to see how the story continues. Here is everything you need to know about Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2, from its holiday release date to what might happen next in Hawkins.
The Official Release Schedule
Netflix is sticking to a unique release plan for the show’s final season, spacing out the episodes over major holidays. The first four episodes, titled Volume 1, are now available to stream. The next installment arrives very soon.
Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 will be released on Wednesday, December 25, 2025. In a break from its typical midnight release schedule, Netflix will drop the new episodes at 8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) / 5 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). This primetime release means that for viewers in other parts of the world, the episodes will arrive in the early hours of December 26.
The release strategy concludes with the series finale just a week later. The final episode, “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up,” will be released as a separate volume on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025, at the same time of 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
What Volume 2 Includes
Volume 2 consists of three new episodes that will continue the story from the major cliffhangers of Volume 1. The confirmed episodes are:
- Episode 5: “Chapter Five: Shock Jock”
- Episode 6: “Chapter Six: Escape from Camazotz”
- Episode 7: “Chapter Seven: The Bridge”
These three episodes will lead directly into the grand finale on New Year’s Eve. The episode “Escape from Camazotz” has sparked particular interest, as its title seems to connect directly to a key storyline from Volume 1.
Where to Stream and a Theatrical Finale
Like all previous seasons, Stranger Things Season 5 is streaming exclusively on Netflix. You will need an active subscription to watch Volume 2 when it releases on Christmas Day.
In a special treat for fans, Netflix and the Duffer Brothers are also bringing the series finale to the big screen. The final episode, “The Rightside Up,” will be shown in select theaters in the U.S. and Canada. These fan events begin on December 31, timed with the Netflix premiere, and continue through January 1, 2026.
“Weโre beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters,” series creators Matt and Ross Duffer said. “Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfectโฆway to celebrate the end of this adventure.”
Key Storylines Heading into Volume 2
Volume 1 left several characters in peril and raised big questions that Volume 2 will need to address. The season picks up in the fall of 1987, with Hawkins under military quarantine after the Rifts opened at the end of Season 4. The core group is united with the goal of finding and killing Vecna, but his whereabouts are unknown.
One of the biggest shocks was the kidnapping of Holly Wheeler. A Demogorgon snatched her from her home, and she later appeared in a reconstructed Creel house with Vecna. He has been luring her with gifts, including a radio and a cassette tape of Tiffany’s “I Think We’re Alone Now.” This mirrors the use of music in earlier seasons, but now Vecna seems to be using it to manipulate his victims.
Meanwhile, Will Byers has begun to harness a unique power. Using his deep connection to the Upside Down, he demonstrated the ability to control and even destroy Demogorgons to save his friends. This newfound power is different from Eleven’s and will likely be a key asset in the final battle.
Another major plot thread involves Max Mayfield, who is still in a coma. It was revealed that she is actually trapped within Vecna’s memories, hiding in a cave-like shelter that he is afraid to enter. Her presence there is a major annoyance to Vecna and could be a critical weakness for the group to exploit.
The human threat has also escalated. Dr. Kay, played by Linda Hamilton, is leading a government team hunting for Eleven. Her group has developed satellite technology that acts as “kryptonite” for Eleven’s powers, forcing her into hiding and complicating the mission to stop Vecna.
With the final battle looming, the group will need to come together one last time to save Hawkins and the world from the terrifying power of the Upside Down.
