The fight for a million dollars got personal in the latest episode of Survivor 49. After the shocking blindside of Jawan Pitts last week, emotions were running high and revenge was on the menu for several castaways. The episode saw one player racing against a rising tide for a game-changing advantage, while a powerful alliance began to fracture from within. The result was a unanimous Tribal Council vote that sent home a player host Jeff Probst called “a legit threat to win” the entire season.
The Fallout from Jawan’s Blindside
The episode began with immediate tension at the Lewatu camp. Sage Ahrens-Nichols was furious after her closest ally, Jawan, was voted out using Savannah Louie‘s extra vote. Sage felt isolated and betrayed, particularly by Sophie Segreti, who had joined the opposing alliance.
Sophie attempted to clear the air with Sage, explaining that voting out Jawan was the best move for her own game. The apology did not go well. Sage, whose game plan was shattered, was in no mood to listen. She lashed out, making it clear she saw Sophie as an enemy. This confrontation set the tone for the rest of the episode, putting a target on Sophie’s back as someone seeking payback.
“Sophie was a legit threat to win,” host Jeff Probst said on the On Fire aftershow podcast. “And unfortunately, when you have those qualities, you become a target.”
Meanwhile, the core alliance of Rizo Velovic, Savannah, and Sophi Balerdi appeared strong. However, hints of trouble emerged. Sophi, aware she might be at the bottom of her own trio, started quietly looking for other options, knowing she might need to make a move soon to improve her own chances.
Steven’s Race Against the Tide
Early in the episode, a ship arrived at the beach offering a chance for an advantage. The catch was a grueling task that would cost valuable energy before the Immunity Challenge. Most players decided to save their strength, but Steven Ramm chose to go.
His task was a race against nature. Steven had to run around the entire perimeter of a small island, memorizing numbers posted at various points. He then had to use the correct sequence to unlock a treasure chestโall before the high tide rolled in and made the chest inaccessible. The physical strain was immense, but Steven succeeded. He returned to camp with a new advantage but kept its exact natureโa block-a-vote powerโa secret from the others, only revealing he had won something.
This advantage proved crucial, as Stevenโs name was initially high on the chopping block. Rizo in particular wanted him out, viewing the rocket scientist as a smart and likable social threat.
Shifting Targets and a Fracturing Alliance
Back at camp, the strategy discussions were chaotic. Sophi, exploring her options, first approached the vengeful Sage with a plan to target Savannah. Sage, who had wanted Savannah out for weeks, was naturally interested. However, Sage did not trust Sophi, seeing how close she was with Rizo and Savannah. That plan quickly fell apart.
The target then seemed to shift to Kristina Mills. Sophie Segreti had previously wanted Kristina out and still saw her as a safe option who wouldnโt upset the core alliance. Kristina, who had played her Hidden Immunity Idol for Steven the previous week, was now without protection and aware of her vulnerable position.
The turning point came when Rizo changed his strategy. With Steven now holding an advantage and later winning individual immunity, he became a harder target. Rizo decided to pivot. He began working with Steven and pointed the vote toward a bigger threat: Sophie Segreti.
Sophie presented a major problem for the others. She had been on the right side of every single Tribal Council vote so far in the game. Combined with her consistent strength in challenges, this perfect voting record and physical prowess made her a growing threat that everyone could agree needed to be stopped.
Tribal Council: A Unanimous Vote for Revenge
At Tribal Council, the atmosphere was charged. An emotional Sage spoke about missing Jawan, who now watched from the jury. Kristina and Savannah then engaged in an elaborate bit of gameplay. Using their known dislike for each other, they pretended the vote was heading toward Savannah. This performance was designed to make Sophie feel safe.
The plan worked perfectly. When Jeff Probst read the votes, the result was decisive. Sophie had voted for Savannah. Every other vote was for Sophie. As the outcome became clear, Sage shot a look of victory to Jawan in the jury box, who cheered her on. Sophie was blindsided but took her exit with grace, impressed by the move.
Savannah wrote “sweet revenge” on her ballot for Sophie, finally getting back at someone she had clashed with for multiple episodes. For Sage, the vote was vengeance for Jawan. For the rest, it was a strategic necessity to eliminate a strong player.

The State of the Game
With Sophie Segreti‘s exit, only six castaways remain in the hunt for the Survivor 49 title:
- Rizo Velovic: Still holds a Hidden Immunity Idol and is widely seen as playing a masterful, controlling game from the shadows.
- Savannah Louie: Has used her extra vote and remains a powerful, if obvious, threat who has driven many votes.
- Sophi Balerdi: Holds the “Knowledge is Power” advantage and is in a solid position, though she was actively looking to flip.
- Steven Ramm: Now has a block-a-vote advantage and just won immunity, temporarily shielding him.
- Kristina Mills: Is without an idol and on the outskirts, but may not be the primary target.
- Sage Ahrens-Nichols: Is isolated after losing Jawan and remains focused on breaking up the core alliance.
Jeff Probst shared that Sophie was one of the first players cast for the season and that producers had been eager to get her on the show for years. Her elimination proves that in the final stages of Survivor, a perfect record and obvious strength can be a player’s biggest liability. The game continues next Wednesday at 8/7c on CBS and Paramount+.
