Tamara and Mateo were the latest Islanders to be sent home from the Love Island Australia villa. The exit came during Episode 27 of the 2025 season.

The couple left together after the show’s host, Sophie Monk, informed them they were being eliminated. This decision followed the final recoupling ceremony, where all other Islanders found partners. Tamara and Mateo were the last single people standing. Their departure occurred just before another major exit from fellow Islander Gabby.

Tamara has since spoken openly about her feelings, sharing that she is at peace with the result and holds no regrets.

How Tamara and Mateo Were Eliminated

The elimination took a unique turn. In a dramatic episode, the power to decide which couple stayed and which left was given to the Islanders themselves. After all the participants chose their partners for the final recoupling, Sophie Monk announced that one couple would still be dumped from the villa.

Tamara and Mateo were called forward. The host explained that they were being removed for two main reasons: they had “failed to build on a connection with each other,” and they had also “failed to be chosen by the final two Bombshells” who had recently entered the villa.

This meant their journey was over. The pair were given just thirty minutes to pack their belongings and say their goodbyes before leaving the Spanish villa.

Tamara’s Reaction to Leaving the Villa

In her exit interview and final words in the villa, Tamara was remarkably composed. She reflected on her time paired with Mateo and accepted that their romantic connection never fully developed.

“I’ve been with Mateo since very early days in the villa, and we’ve given it everything, and it just hadn’t worked out. So, it was time for me to go. I didn’t find that genuine connection here. So, yeah, I feel really at peace with going home right now.”

She also shared a lighthearted moment about the situation, joking about the coincidence of their simultaneous exit. When asked by the host if she saw the elimination coming, Tamara simply answered, “Yes”.

She expressed positive feelings toward her fellow Islanders, stating she was leaving “on the biggest high ever” and that everyone in the villa deserved to be there.

The Friendship Bond Versus a Romantic Connection

Both Tamara and Mateo acknowledged that their relationship had settled into a strong friendship rather than a romance. This was a key factor in their elimination.

“It just made sense, Tamara and I were the only friendship couple that weren’t getting to know each other on a romantic level,” Mateo told the cameras during their farewell.

Tamara echoed this sentiment, confirming that while they developed a close bond, they were unable to find a deeper, genuine romantic spark. She emphasized that there were “no regrets or bad feelings” between them and that she believed they would remain friends.

Mateo shared his own perspective after leaving, revealing to producers that he felt some “resentment” about how things ended. He suggested that external pressure created a roadblock in their relationship and expressed frustration that his efforts “was just not right”.

Goodbyes and Emotional Villa Departure

The exit was an emotional moment for the entire villa. Islanders gathered to say goodbye as Tamara and Mateo prepared to leave.

A particularly touching moment came when Mateo sat down for a final chat with his close friend Jotham. Mateo told him that leaving felt strangely like a breakup. Jotham responded that the villa would not be the same without him, calling Mateo the first person he would confide in and highlighting their mutual support through the season’s ups and downs.

Host Sophie Monk also shared her thoughts, expressing a sentiment felt by many viewers: “Tamara and Mateo, I think we all wanted that connection to work out. Some people aren’t just meant to be together”.

Other Major Exits in Love Island Australia 2025

Tamara and Mateo’s departure was part of a significant wave of eliminations. Just before they left, the villa saw a shocking group exit where four Bombshellsโ€”Boston, Mia, Alex, and Baileyโ€”were all sent home at once after the original Islanders decided who to couple up with.

Furthermore, in the same Episode 27, Islander Gabby made the unprecedented decision to quit the show. Before a planned vote could happen, Gabby stood up and announced she was leaving voluntarily. She stated she could not form a deep connection with her new partner, Josh, and felt the other five couples deserved to continue to the finale. This meant Josh was also eliminated by default.

Other notable exits this season include:

  • Isabel and Connor: Isabel was voted out by superfans, but in a romantic gesture, Connor chose to leave the villa with her.
  • Lacey: She was dumped after the male Islanders deemed her the least likely to find a “genuine connection”.
  • Cooper: He was sent home after Yana chose to save her ex-boyfriend, Kye, instead of him.
  • Zac and Bailey: They were the first Islanders eliminated after Zac ended their coupling due to a fundamental disagreement about future children.
