Antonia Thomas, best known for playing Dr. Claire Browne on ABC’s “The Good Doctor,” has joined the cast of “Dig,” a new comedy series coming to Peacock. She will play a key role in the show created by Amy Poehler and Mike Schur. The series, based on a novel and featuring an ensemble cast, is scheduled to begin streaming on the Peacock platform in the United States.

The casting was reported on Dec. 19, 2025, by major entertainment outlets. Thomas will be a series regular, joining previously announced stars Poehler, Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Fina Strazza.

What is Peacock’s “Dig” About?

“Dig” is a workplace comedy with a twist of adventure. The story follows four women working at an archaeological excavation site in Greece. While they are all at very different points in their personal and professional lives, their discovery of a long-buried secret throws them into the middle of a high-stakes international conspiracy.

The series is based on the bestselling 2023 novel “Excavations” by Kate Myers. The adaptation brings together the celebrated comedy team of Amy Poehler and Mike Schur, marking their first collaboration since the hit series “Parks and Recreation”. Poehler and Schur co-wrote the pilot script.

Antonia Thomas’s Character: Clare, the Head Preservationist

In “Dig,” Antonia Thomas will play Clare, the head preservationist at the archaeological site. Her character oversees the site’s laboratory and museum, working to protect and study the artifacts that are found.

Clare is described as someone who is “most comfortable in a world of privilege and is slightly off-foot in the casual cargo-clad world of the dig”.

This means her refined nature will constantly clash with the messy, hands-on reality of field archaeology, a dynamic expected to be a major source of the show’s humor. The character presents a distinct change for Thomas, whose most famous role was the compassionate and grounded surgeon Claire Browne.

The Star-Studded Ensemble Cast

Thomas joins a notable group of actors who make up the core team on the dig site.

  • Amy Poehler: The co-creator will also star in the series as one of the four lead women.
  • Hugh Laurie: The acclaimed actor will play Neville, a traditional British professor who is dedicated to the old-fashioned ideals of archaeology.
  • Geraldine Viswanathan and Fina Strazza: They round out the quartet of women at the center of the story, playing characters who are newer to the field and trying to find their footing.

The series is produced by Universal Television.

Antonia Thomas’s Career from “Misfits” to “The Good Doctor”

Antonia Thomas is an English actress who first gained wide recognition for her role as Alisha Daniels in the popular UK superhero dramedy “Misfits,” which ran from 2009 to 2011. She is also known for starring as Evie in the Netflix/Channel 4 romantic comedy series “Lovesick” (originally titled “Scrotal Recall”).

Her breakout role in the United States came with “The Good Doctor,” where she played surgical resident Dr. Claire Browne. She was a series regular for the show’s first four seasons and returned for guest appearances in later years. Her other television work includes roles in Steve McQueen’s “Small Axe” anthology, Apple TV+’s “Still Up,” and the UK crime drama “Suspect”.
