Tommy Egan officially controls Chicago. The series finale of Power Book IV: Force aired on January 16, 2026, bringing Tommy’s three-season story in the Windy City to a dramatic end. While he emerged as the city’s top drug distributor, the finale also set the stage for a potential return to his roots, complete with a familiar face from the past.
Final Battle for Chicago and Jenard’s Downfall
The final episode revolved around the violent end of the war between Tommy and Jenard Sampson. After the death of his brother JP, Tommy attended the funeral, where Jenard was waiting outside to kill him. Seeing police presence, Jenard was forced to leave the area, which allowed Tommy to escape the planned hit.
Jenard’s position as the head of the CBI gang had become shaky. He alienated his remaining soldiers with poor leadership and desperate moves. This weakness created an opening for Tommy. With inside information on CBI’s location, Tommy and his ally Miguel organized a direct attack. During the ambush, Miguel was shot in the leg, but Tommy’s crew defeated the CBI members. After this decisive loss, the surviving CBI members completely abandoned Jenard. They walked out on him and chose to join Tommy’s organization instead.
This mass defection marked Jenard’s complete professional failure, costing him his gang and his position of power. As for his ally Vic Flynn, he also lost control and returned to his criminal ways, later seeking an alliance with the defeated Jenard.
Tariq St. Patrick’s Surprise Arrival and Critical Role
In a major surprise for fans, Tariq St. Patrick appeared in Chicago. His entrance was perfectly timed. He answered a mysterious phone call from Tommy, who was asking for backup ahead of the final fight against the CBI. Tariq’s arrival directly saved Tommy’s life during the conflict, as he helped take out the enemy forces.
This reunion of the two characters was emotional and significant. It represented a partial healing of old wounds related to the death of Tariq’s father and Tommy’s best friend, Ghost. Tariq made it clear he wasn’t in Chicago “to bring up old shit,” focusing instead on the future.
“Ghost was my family, too,” Tommy said to Tariq on a rooftop after the battle, acknowledging their painful but shared history.
Tommy’s Personal Relationships and Family Decisions
Outside of the drug war, Tommy’s personal life saw major shifts. His mother, Kate, decided to return to New York to continue her recovery and maintain her sobriety, leaving Chicago despite Tommy’s attempts to make her stay.
Tommy’s girlfriend Mireya made a big choice to protect their family. She left Chicago on her own before the final battle, leaving Tommy a note. She explained that she wanted to give him peace of mind so he could handle his dangerous business without worrying about her and their unborn child’s safety. Tommy believes she went to Mexico. Showrunner Gary Lennon explained that this move was designed to give Mireya agency, showing she is a true partner who understands Tommy’s world.
Tommy’s nephew, D-Mac, was dealing with heavy grief over his father’s murder. He chose to fully commit to Tommy’s criminal world, pushing his girlfriend away to protect her from the dangerous life he was entering.
A New Legal Deal and Chicago Under New Management
With his criminal enemies beaten, Tommy also secured his position from a legal perspective. The new U.S. Attorney, William Tseng, met with Tommy. To gain his trust, Tseng killed corrupt police officer Bobby, effectively closing the murder case of Stacy Marks by blaming it on her and Bobby’s own illegal dealings.
Tseng wanted to build a business relationship with Tommy, but his plan changed when Tommy revealed that his cartel connection, Roberto Ortega, was dead. This left Tseng in a weak position, and he ultimately became an “employee” of Tommy’s organization.
With his rule secure, Tommy formalized his new business structure. He put Shanti “Showstopper” in charge of the former CBI soldiers who joined him, demanding they take orders from her. Tommy told Shanti she reminded him of his late associate Liliana.
The Final Scene and a Major Proposal for Tommy
The series ended with a powerful conversation on a Chicago rooftop between Tommy and Tariq. Tariq looked at the city Tommy now controlled and called him the “King of Chicago”. Then, he presented Tommy with a major offer: leave Chicago and return to New York City to become Tariq’s new business partner.
“Here he goes, King of Chicago,” Tariq said to Tommy, before adding, “Come to New York and move your powder with me.” He then asked, “So what you say? We start some new s**t or what?”.
Tommy’s response was a thoughtful look and a small smile, showing clear interest in the idea. The original “Power” theme song began to play as the screen went dark, leaving Tommy’s decision open-ended.

Future of the Characters and Potential Spinoff
While Power Book IV: Force has ended, the story for Tommy and Tariq might continue. Actor Joseph Sikora, who plays Tommy, and showrunner Gary Lennon have expressed strong interest in developing more stories. Sikora stated he is “cautiously optimistic” about another chapter for Tommy.
He confirmed that he and Lennon are “actively developing a movie” for the character and have a full outline prepared. A potential project could focus on Tommy returning to New York to partner with Tariq.
“As long as Gary Lennon is writing Tommy, I’d love to keep playing him,” Sikora told People magazine.
The Power universe continues to expand. A prequel series titled Power: Origins is in development at Starz. It will explore the younger years of Tommy and Ghost, with actors Charlie Mann and Spence Moore II playing the iconic roles.
