Comedian Samay Raina returned after more than a year away from public life, and his new comedy special just broke a massive global record. The stand-up show, titled Still Alive, dropped on April 7, 2026, and has now become the most-watched full-length stand-up comedy special on YouTube from a single upload.

The special crossed 53.4 million views within two weeks of its release. By April 23, 2026, the numbers had climbed even higher to 54.2 million views on the platform. This achievement puts Samay ahead of every other stand-up comedian worldwide who has released a full special on YouTube.

The 1-hour-and-21-minute performance marks Samay’s first official stand-up special. In it, he talks openly about the India’s Got Latent controversy that forced him offline, his one-year break, money struggles, childhood bullying, his Kashmiri Pandit background, mental health, and the support he received from fans and close friends.

How ‘Still Alive’ Broke YouTube Viewership Records Worldwide

The numbers behind this special are huge. Within the first 24 hours of its release, Still Alive pulled in 22 million views. That kind of early traction rarely happens for stand-up comedy on YouTube, especially for a special that runs over an hour long.

By April 22, the view count hit 53.4 million. The next day, it reached 54.2 million. The video also collected over 3.8 million likes and more than two lakh comments from viewers around the world.

Samay shared a screenshot on his Instagram Stories showing an exchange with AI chatbot Grok, where he asked, “Which is the most-watched YouTube comedy special of all time globally?” The response confirmed his special had taken the top spot. He reposted another story with a caption that read, “officially turned his biggest controversy into a record-breaking comeback.”

“Still Alive is the most honest thing I have ever made. I owe every view to the people who never stopped showing up,” Samay said in a statement.

The India’s Got Latent Controversy That Pushed Samay Offline

The backstory matters here. Back in February 2025, Samay was running a show called India’s Got Latent. During one episode, panelist Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, made a joke that triggered massive backlash across social media and mainstream news.

Ranveer asked a contestant a question about parents and sex that many found offensive. The joke spread quickly, and soon police complaints, known as FIRs, were filed against Samay, Ranveer, Ashish Chanchlani, and Apoorva Mukhija. The backlash was so intense that Samay removed all episodes of India’s Got Latent from YouTube.

The controversy didn’t just hurt his reputation. It hit his wallet hard too.

Financial Fallout and Mental Health Struggles During the Break

During a recent chat on Dostcast, Samay opened up about how bad things got. He said he lost everything after the controversy. Sponsors pulled out, and he had to return money he had already received for upcoming episodes and ad campaigns.

He explained that he had put advance payments into fixed deposits. When the controversy hit, he had to break those FDs and give the money back. A deal with BookMyShow for an entire tour also fell apart. He was scared of going broke and falling into debt.

Samay compared his situation to what happened to Amitabh Bachchan in the late 1990s, when the actor’s company ABCL collapsed and left him with roughly Rs 90 crore in debts. That fear of financial ruin was very real for Samay during his year away from the public eye.

In Still Alive, he admits the controversy affected his mental health badly. He felt helpless as irrelevant people tried to grab attention by attacking him when he was down.

What Samay Reveals in His Comeback Special

The special covers a lot of ground. Samay does not hold back. He talks about the exact moment the controversy exploded and shares details that had not come out before. He claims that Ranveer actually cracked the controversial joke eight times during the episode, but only one version stayed in the final cut. That single version ended up causing the entire storm.

He also takes aim at those who criticized him during the tough period. He playfully mocks Mukesh Khanna, the actor known for playing Shaktimaan, who had publicly criticized both Samay and Ranveer. Samay jokes about how Khanna came after him despite his own past statements.

Sunil Pal, another comedian who made accusations against him, also gets called out. Samay points out that the same people criticizing him were trying to get on his show.

The special mixes dark moments with laughs. He talks about crying while filming certain parts but turns those stories into jokes. Viewers online have called it his most honest work yet.

Fans and Fellow Creators React to the Record-Breaking Special

Social media lit up after the special dropped and even more so after the record was confirmed. Fans flooded X, Reddit, and Instagram with clips and reactions.

One user wrote, “Samay Raina’s latest, ‘Still Alive’, is the best commentary on discourse in India. Marketed as comedy, narrated as a reality check.”

Another shared a video of Samay crying while talking about the Latent controversy, calling it a powerful moment. Activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj posted, “Samay Raina Still Alive is on YouTube. Whether you love Samay or Hate Samay … I saw this LIVE and I would say do watch if you can. He talks about the most important lessons of life he learnt during his lowest phase & they’re brilliant.”

Fellow comedian Ashish Chanchlani reacted before the release, writing “Epic. Love you” on Samay’s announcement post. The comment section of the announcement filled with messages like “This comeback feels personal,” “Legend is back,” and “The comeback of 2026.”

Even veteran comedian Archana Puran Singh praised Samay for his work. However, not everyone was happy. Mukesh Khanna gave another interview criticizing the kind of content young people watch today, saying interviews should be conducted with dignity.

India’s Got Latent Season 2 Announcement and What It Means

During the special, Samay made an announcement that got the crowd cheering. He confirmed that India’s Got Latent will return for a second season.

He told the audience, “The question about India’s Got Latent… people keep asking me whether the show will return. I have thought about it a lot. I don’t think my show could have ended at such a high point.” The crowd laughed, and he added, “Let me rephrase that. I don’t think the first season of my show could have ended at such a high point.”

After that, Balraj Singh Ghai, the owner of Habitat, and bouncer Amin Khan came on stage. Samay hugged Balraj and fist-bumped Amin before saying, “I will bring the show back, brother… because I really enjoyed doing it. As long as I am in this world, I just want to have fun. I want to do a completely wild show. What you see on the internet now is a cut, very clean version. I want to do a wild show.”

The announcement has fans excited for what comes next, even after everything that happened with the first season.

Global Recognition and the Road Ahead for Samay Raina

Before the controversy and after it, Samay kept performing. He completed a sold-out tour across India. He also became the youngest Indian stand-up comedian to perform at the Madison Square Garden Theatre in New York. That achievement came before the Still Alive record was set.

The special is currently available for free on YouTube. It continues to gain millions of views daily. As of April 23, 2026, the number sits at 54.2 million and counting. No other full-length stand-up special from a single upload has reached these numbers on the platform.

Samay is currently in Italy taking a short break. He will head to Amsterdam next for a trial show. His schedule remains busy despite the year-long gap caused by the legal troubles.

The comedian turned his lowest moment into his biggest success. A year after deleting his show and facing possible bankruptcy, he now holds a world record that no stand-up comedian has touched before.
