The upcoming Apple TV+ series Cape Fear brings the classic psychological thriller to the small screen for the first time. The 10-episode limited series stars Javier Bardem as the terrifying Max Cady, with Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson as the married attorneys caught in his web of vengeance. Production took place across Georgia from April to September 2025, using both studio lots and historic city streets to build its world of suspense.
The crew chose locations that mix modern luxury with southern gothic atmosphere. The contrast between peaceful family life and lurking danger is central to the story, and Georgia provided the perfect backdrop for this tension.
Assembly Studios in Doraville Served as Main Production Hub
Most of Cape Fear was filmed at Assembly Studios in Doraville, Georgia. The facility is located at 2582 Assembly Boulevard, Building 2000. It spans over 1 million square feet of production space and includes 22 soundstages, warehouses, and other support facilities.
The production used the code name “Peaches” while working at Assembly Studios. Heather Taylor, the Atlanta-based casting director for the series, confirmed that season one production wrapped at the location. She described Assembly as an incredible studio that offers everything a production needs, from costume storage to production meeting spaces.
Cherokee County Brought Natural Landscapes to the Screen
The production also shot in Cherokee County, Georgia. This area sits near Lake Allatoona in the Etowah River sub-basin. The location is marketed as “Where Metro Meets the Mountains.” It offers a mix of modern buildings and natural scenery.
For the story, this setting highlights the contrast between the Bowden family’s peaceful life and the chaos Max Cady brings. The calm mountains and green spaces represent everything the family stands to lose when Cady gets out of prison.
The High Museum of Art in Midtown Atlanta Became a Gala Scene
The High Museum of Art in Midtown Atlanta served as a major filming location. The crew shot a big scene at the museum during the week of May 5, 2025. According to a city-approved film permit, the scene showed a gala where “Savannah elites” gathered for a fundraising event for the wrongfully convicted.
The production closed some sidewalks and street lanes around the museum for the shoot. Cameras rolled from Wednesday through Saturday inside the museum. Overnight scenes were also filmed. About 200 people, including cast and crew, were on site during the week.
The High Museum remained open to the public during filming. Visitors used the Stent Family Wing doors off Peachtree Street instead of the main entrance. The museum has appeared in other productions before, including Black Panther and the TV show The Resident.
On-Location Filming Around Metro Atlanta
The cast and crew were spotted at several other locations around Metro Atlanta. In June 2025, Amy Adams and Javier Bardem filmed scenes at a Chevron gas station in Atlanta. Adams wore a black suit with a purple blouse while Bardem dressed in a blue shirt and jeans for the scene.
Patrick Wilson, who plays Tom Bowden, was also seen arriving on set in Atlanta during May 2025. Anna Baryshnikov, another cast member, filmed scenes with Adams at the gas station location.
The Woodruff Arts Center, located at 1280 Peachtree Road in northeastern Atlanta, was another filming spot. The crew also shot at the Museum of Art in the area.
Savannah, Georgia: Honoring the Original Films
The production traveled to Savannah, Georgia, to shoot a major portion of the series. Savannah is the oldest city in the state and serves as the county seat of Chatham County. The historic coastal city has been the filming location for many movies, including The Menu, Juror #2, and The Fugitive.
Choosing Savannah paid homage to the original 1962 and 1991 films. The first movie was set in a small Southern town, and the 1991 version starring Robert De Niro also used Southern Gothic atmospheres. Savannah’s Spanish moss-draped trees, historic buildings, and tranquil waterways helped translate the psychological tension to the screen.
The city’s visual character reinforces the contrast at the heart of the series. Elegant neighborhoods and calm scenery make the danger feel more threatening. Fear hiding beneath everyday life is the core theme of Cape Fear, and Savannah captured that feeling perfectly.
Why Georgia Was Chosen for Filming
Georgia has become a major hub for film and television production. The state offers significant tax incentives for productions that shoot there. Assembly Studios in Doraville provides modern facilities with easy access to diverse locations, from city streets to natural landscapes.
The state also has a large crew base and production infrastructure. Heather Taylor, the casting director, noted that working in Atlanta was a great experience. The combination of studio space and real-world locations allowed the crew to bring the world of Cape Fear to life efficiently.
