The ₹370 biryani row involving stand-up comedian Pranit More has taken another turn. After issuing a public apology for allowing an audience member to make offensive remarks during his show, More is now facing sharp criticism from fellow comedian Kunal Kamra. Kamra took to X (formerly Twitter) on June 13, 2026, to call out what he sees as a pattern of excuses in the comedy industry.
The controversy began when a clip from More’s Gurugram show went viral. In the video, audience member Himanshu Jangra, 23, joked about spending ₹370 on a plate of chicken biryani during a date and suggested he deserved a “return” on his investment. The remarks were widely criticized as misogynistic. More laughed and continued the interaction instead of shutting it down.
Kamra’s Direct Message to Pranit More and Other Comedians
Kunal Kamra, who has himself faced legal trouble for political satire, did not hold back in his response to More’s apology video. On June 13, he posted a list on X titled “Things comedians should stop hiding behind.”
“Things comedians should stop hiding behind… 1. Storytelling. 2. Crowd Work. 3. Hard Work 4. Bank Balance. 5. Parents.”
Kamra’s post directly targeted the excuses often used by comics when their material or audience interactions spark outrage. By mentioning “crowd work,” he referred to More’s defense that he got “carried away” because the audience was laughing. The mention of “parents” and “bank balance” pointed to comedians who play the victim card when facing backlash.
In a separate, sharper post, Kamra compared More unfavorably to another controversial figure. He wrote, “Pranit More makes Harsh Gujral look like Barrack Obama.” This comparison suggested that in Kamra’s view, More’s handling of the situation was so poor that even Gujral, who has faced his own share of online hate, comes across as reasonable by comparison.
What Pranit More Said in His Apology
Pranit More released a video statement after his Instagram account was reinstated. He had been suspended from the platform during the initial wave of backlash. In the video, he admitted fault without making excuses.
“I could have stopped him there, but I gave him a platform which caused things to escalate. I feel I deserve this hate,” More said in his apology.
More explained that during the crowd-work segment, the atmosphere of the room influenced his judgment. Everyone was laughing, and he got carried away. He called this his biggest mistake. He also confirmed that he is cooperating with authorities in any legal proceedings against him. The Maharashtra Cyber Police have registered an FIR against More and Jangra under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
The Backlash Against Himanshu Jangra
The fallout has not been limited to the comedian. Himanshu Jangra, the audience member who made the original remarks, was fired from his job at Starvik Design after the video spread online. The company’s founder, Vivek Vishwakarma, announced the termination on Instagram. Jangra’s comments about expecting sexual favors in exchange for a meal were condemned as promoting a transactional and harmful view of consent.
Longer versions of the interaction later surfaced, showing Jangra describing in detail how he physically grabbed his date and took her to a park against her wishes. The woman was reportedly five years older than him. These details intensified the outrage, as many felt the initial viral clip had only shown a sanitized version of the event.
Support for Pranit More From Kunickaa Sadanand
Not everyone in the entertainment industry is attacking More. Actor Kunickaa Sadanand, who shared the Bigg Boss 19 house with More, defended him in the comments section of his apology video. She called him “a good boy, with right values” and said crowd work can carry an entertainer away when the room is reacting positively.
“You were not the cause of a generational mindset; you were one of the many who inherited this mindset from generations of objectification,” Kunickaa wrote.
She also directed a message towards the broader public, saying she hopes people change their attitude towards women and girls. While she supported More’s character, she acknowledged that the underlying issue of misogyny in comedy and society needs addressing.

Internet’s Mixed Reaction to the Apology
Social media users have shown a split response to More’s apology. Some appreciated that he took responsibility instead of deflecting blame. One user wrote, “Bhai Indian Comedy World Hai Haste Sab Hai aur End Me Rota Ek Hi Insaan Hai.” Others were less forgiving, accusing him of activating the “sympathy card” only after the situation spiraled out of control.
Legal proceedings are currently active. More has been summoned to appear before the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for questioning. Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has also taken note of the incident. As of June 14, 2026, More has not announced any cancellations of upcoming shows, but the pressure on him continues to mount.
