The world of Masashi Kishimoto’s legendary ninja franchise is getting a new stage adaptation. A non-verbal live show called “Ninja Show Naruto” is set to run at Kyoto’s historic Minamiza Theatre from February to June 2027. This production will tell the story of Naruto Uzumaki’s early days without using any spoken dialogue.

The show uses physical performance, acrobatics, and modern technology to bring the ninja world to life. Instead of relying on words, the production will use movement, aerial performances, projection mapping, and stage illusions to depict the famous jutsu techniques from the series. The Minamiza Theatre, known as Japan’s oldest kabuki theater, will add traditional stage mechanisms like trap doors and turntables to the performance.

Cast and Creative Team Behind the Non-Verbal Naruto Show

The show features a main cast playing Team 7. Yuri Takahashi and Ryลซma Aoi will share the role of Naruto Uzumaki in different performance periods. REI takes on the role of Sasuke Uchiha, Yui Oikawa plays Sakura Haruno, and HIROMA will perform as Kakashi Hatake.

Go Ueki, who directed stage adaptations of Attack on Titan: The Musical and Sailor Moon: Shining Theater, is directing the show. Neil Dorward, known for his work with Cirque du Soleil, serves as the global creative consultant. Shinjiro Kameda is handling the composition for the production.

What Makes This Naruto Stage Show Different

The non-verbal format makes this show stand out from previous stage adaptations. Previous productions like “Live Spectacle NARUTO” used spoken dialogue, but this show will tell the story through action and visual effects alone. The show aims to create an experience that anyone can enjoy, regardless of their language.

The production team describes it as a new type of “ninja” entertainment that combines traditional Japanese culture with modern pop culture. The show will focus on the “boyhood arc” of the original manga, following Naruto’s growth alongside his friends in the Hidden Leaf Village.

The production is a collaboration between Nelke Planning and S-SIZE, companies with extensive experience in adapting manga and anime for the stage. They are working with Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, V Jump, Saikyล Jump, and the Japan 2.5D Musical Association.

Naruto Franchise Background and Global Reach

Masashi Kishimoto launched the original Naruto manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1999, and the series ended in November 2014. The manga has sold over 250 million copies worldwide across 72 collected volumes. The story follows Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja who dreams of becoming Hokage, the leader of his village, while overcoming battles and personal struggles.

The franchise includes the Naruto and Naruto Shippลซden television anime series, which aired from 2002 to 2017. The series has also produced OVAs, 11 animated films, spinoff manga, the Boruto sequel series, novels, stage plays, video games, and merchandise. The show aims to attract both local theater fans and international tourists visiting Kyoto. The Minamiza Theatre is located in Kyoto’s Shijo-Kawaramachi district, a popular area for visitors interested in traditional Japanese performing arts. The creative team plans to release more details about the full cast, ticket sales, and promotional materials closer to the premiere date.
