Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has shared his deep admiration for Bollywood veteran Govinda, calling him a “legendary artiste” and stating that Bollywood will never have another performer like him. The comments came during an Instagram Live session where Diljit interacted with fans while on his ongoing Aura World Tour.
Diljit, who recently made history as the first Punjabi artist to headline Wembley Stadium in London, opened up about his long-standing wish to share screen space with Govinda. He also reflected on how the nature of entertainment in Hindi cinema has changed over the years, praising the pure joy that Govinda’s films delivered to audiences during the 1990s.
Diljit Dosanjh Praises Govinda During Instagram Live
During the Instagram Live session, Diljit spoke warmly about Govinda while singing the actor’s song Kem Chhe from the film Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain. The singer-actor did not hold back his appreciation for the veteran star’s unique talents. “I love Govinda, man. Govinda warga artiste naa Bollywood mein hua aur naa hoga (There has never been an artiste like Govinda in Bollywood, nor will there ever be one). Govinda is Govinda,” Diljit said during the interaction.
Diljit further revealed that working with Govinda remains one of his unfulfilled wishes. He praised the actor’s distinctive comic style and said, “My wish to work with him in one of his films remains unfulfilled. No one can come close to his comic timing. He is a legendary artiste”. The Punjabi superstar also described Govinda as a “one-of-a-kind Bollywood legend” who could effortlessly combine comedy, dance, expressions, and impeccable timing into a single performance.

Diljit’s admiration for Govinda goes beyond simply enjoying his films. The singer emphasized that what stands out most is the instinctive quality Govinda brought to comedy and performance, a quality he believes is exceptionally difficult to replicate. “There is no artist like Govinda, and there might never be. I love him. No one can match his timing. I wish I could have worked with him,” Diljit added.
The Jatt and Juliet actor also highlighted Govinda’s unique ability to carry a scene with his natural screen presence. “Govinda Govinda hi hai,” he said, underlining the actor’s unmistakable charm and charisma that has remained unmatched in the industry.
Diljit Reminisces About Govinda’s 1990s Era
Diljit took a nostalgic trip down memory lane, recalling the golden era of Govinda’s collaborations with filmmaker David Dhawan. The duo delivered several blockbusters together, including Partner, Coolie No. 1, Raja Babu, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Jodi No. 1, Aankhen, and Saajan Chale Sasural.
“What legendary songs he had. David Dhawan and Govinda’s pair was amazing,” Diljit said. He then contrasted the entertainment value of those classic films with today’s box-office-driven approach. “Un filmon mein jo swaad tha, khushi thi ek, now happiness is just telling the other person that my film has crossed ₹100 crore. Now the just telling this is happiness. Govinda sir’s films used to give us happiness, now films have less happiness and more competition”.
Diljit also mentioned specific films and songs from Govinda’s career, quoting lyrics from Dulhe Raja and praising Govinda’s performances in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. “What a film. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. What an acting,” he said.
Diljit Dosanjh’s Wembley Milestone and Aura World Tour
Diljit’s comments about Govinda came around the same time as another major milestone in his own career. On September 12, 2026, he became the first Punjabi artist to headline Wembley Stadium in London, drawing an estimated crowd of 92,000 fans. The concert was part of his ongoing Aura World Tour.
Reflecting on the achievement during an interview with BBC, Diljit said the moment felt bigger than his own success. “It’s a dream for me, and I feel good, I feel happy, and I feel good for my people. I feel good for the next generation. So this Wembley dream is not a dream anymore. We are here; Punjabis are here. It’s not just about my fans; it’s for the whole community,” he said.
The Aura World Tour will next head to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on November 21, 2026. The venue is the world’s largest stadium by seating capacity, and Diljit announced the India leg of his tour during his Wembley performance.
Govinda’s Upcoming Comeback Film Roopa
Govinda, who was last seen on the big screen in the 2019 film Rangeela Raja, is set to make his comeback with the upcoming comedy-drama Roopa. The film marks his return to acting after several years and will feature him opposite newcomer Rani Swarnkar. Govinda is also producing the film, which is described as a suspense drama.
The veteran actor announced the project in July 2026, sharing his excitement about returning to the silver screen. Roopa is particularly notable as it marks the first heroine-led film in Govinda’s four-decade-long career. The film is expected to showcase a different side of the actor, who is best known for his iconic comic roles.
