The final episode of Peacemaker Season 2 is almost here, and a new preview shows the action exploding across multiple realities. Titled “The Full Nelson,” the finale will see Rick Flag Sr. taking charge of a dangerous mission through the Quantum Unfolding Chamber while Peacemaker himself is locked in a prison cell. The episode is confirmed to be a long one, nearly twice the length of the previous chapter, promising a major showdown that will also connect to the future of the DC Universe.
The Mission Into the Multiverse
The preview for the finale shows General Rick Flag Sr., the new director of A.R.G.U.S., leading a team into the mysterious Quantum Unfolding Chamber. This chamber contains doors that open into bizarre and dangerous alternate worlds. The trailer gives glimpses of a bright, candy-filled reality and a dark wasteland filled with giant skeletal spiders. Flag Sr. tells his soldiers, “We’re gonna find what we need in there and everything we talked about is gonna come to fruition.”
However, the true purpose of the mission is questioned by the team on the ground. When Economos asks, “Do we even know what we’re looking for?” Harcourt states they are searching for new resources. Economos then questions the morality of their mission, asking, “When has anything we’ve ever done actually been for the good of the people?” This highlights the growing distrust within the team about A.R.G.U.S.’s real goals.
Peacemaker’s Personal Crisis
While the multiversal mission unfolds, Chris Smith (Peacemaker) is in a very different situation. The episode begins with him surrendering to A.R.G.U.S. and sitting in a jail cell, weighed down by guilt over his past actions. He declares, “I’m the angel of f***ing death,” showing how broken he feels after the events of the previous episode. That episode saw him briefly tricked by a twisted version of reality on Earth-Xโa world where the Nazis won World War IIโwhere his father and brother were still alive. The emotional fallout from that experience led directly to his surrender.
Connecting to the Larger DC Universe
This season of Peacemaker has always been planned as more than a standalone story. Showrunner James Gunn has confirmed that Season 2 acts as a prequel to the upcoming Superman movie, “Man of Tomorrow.” The finale’s exploration of the multiverse is a key part of building that bridge. The alliance between Rick Flag Sr. and the incarcerated Lex Luthor is a direct link to the larger DCU. Gunn teased the importance of the finale, saying:
“People should watch Episode 8 to see what happens, because maybe some of your questions will be answered in that episode by itself.”
While the story sets up future DCU projects, Gunn has also stated that a direct Peacemaker Season 3 is not currently planned, suggesting that the characters’ stories may continue elsewhere.
A Longer Finale for Fans
The finale will address a common fan complaint about the season: shorter episode runtimes. The seventh episode was notably brief, running only about 28 minutes. James Gunn announced on social media that the final episode would be much longer, stating:
“You’ll be happy to know next week’s episode is over 57 minutes long.”
This gives the story plenty of time to resolve its major conflicts and set the stage for the future. “The Full Nelson” premieres on October 9, 2025, on HBO Max.
