Fans of USA Network’s newest legal drama can celebrate. The Rainmaker has been officially renewed for a second season. The network confirmed the news just days after the show’s first season finale aired, promising more courtroom drama for 2026.
The series, based on John Grisham’s bestselling novel, became USA Network’s most-viewed new series in seven years. The first season averaged 1.3 million total viewers across its nine episodes, with the finale becoming the most-watched episode of the season.
Val Boreland, President of Entertainment at Versant, the company overseeing USA Network, announced the renewal. She said:
โThe verdict is in โ The Rainmaker is returning for season two on USA Network. Along with our brilliant showrunner Michael Seitzman and our partners at Lionsgate and Blumhouse, weโre thrilled to build on the momentum and deliver another compelling chapter of this gripping legal drama for our viewers.โ
The Cast Celebrates the Good News
The main cast members shared their excitement about the renewal in a group video call posted on USA Network’s official Instagram. Lana Parrilla, Milo Callaghan, P.J. Byrne, and Madison Iseman appeared together, joking and cheering the news.
โWhatโs up, boo boo! Is it still raining wherever you go?โ Byrne asked Callaghan. Callaghan joked back, โYou know what they call me, One hundred percent chance of rain.โ Parrilla added, โThatโs right, baby, keep on making it rain because we are coming back for a season two.” Iseman simply cheered, โLetโs gooooo!!โ
What Happened in Season One
The first season of The Rainmaker introduced viewers to Rudy Baylor, a lawyer fresh out of law school. Instead of taking a job at a powerful firm, he ends up working for a small-time personal injury lawyer, Bruiser, and her paralegal, Deck.
Rudy’s first major case pits him against his former employer, the courtroom legend Leo Drummond, and his law school girlfriend, Sarah Plankmore. The case involves a grieving mother who is convinced a major healthcare corporation is responsible for her son’s mysterious death.
The season concluded with Rudy winning the hospital case. Meanwhile, Leo Drummond and his firm were placed under FBI investigation, setting the stage for new conflicts.
What to Expect in The Rainmaker Season 2
While specific plot details for the new season are still under wraps, creator and showrunner Michael Seitzman has confirmed he is exploring different directions. He revealed that he is considering both bringing back the original characters and potentially wiping the slate clean with a new story.
โI have a lot of ideas for Season 2, but none of them have really calcified yet in my mind, and some of them include those characters, and some of them donโt,โ Seitzman said. โThereโs a part of me that wonders if we just completely wipe the slate clean in Season 2.”
He also expressed his affection for the cast and characters, making it a difficult decision. The actors are equally eager to return. Lead star Milo Callaghan stated, โIโm here for seven seasons, so letโs go.โ He hopes the whole gang gets back together to face a new adversary.
P.J. Byrne, who plays paralegal Deck, wants the firm to take on even bigger challenges. Lana Parrilla hopes to explore more of her character Bruiser’s personal life, specifically her relationships with men.
