The excitement for Percy Jackson and the Olympians is building at an incredible pace. The official trailer for the show’s second season has shattered records, pulling in a massive 135.9 million views in just its first 10 days after release. This performance dramatically outpaces the first season’s trailer, showing a 60% surge in fan interest and global reach.
Record-Breaking Trailer Views
Disney announced that the new trailer, which debuted on November 6, amassed 135.9 million views across platforms like YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, X, and Facebook. This is a significant jump from the 84.3 million views the Season 1 trailer gathered in the same timeframe. The data shows nearly half of the audience, about 46.8%, came from outside the United States, proving the show’s powerful international appeal.
The New Season’s Story and Cast
Season 2 will follow the plot of the second book in Rick Riordan’s bestselling series, The Sea of Monsters. The trailer sets up another high-stakes mission for Percy Jackson (played by Walker Scobell) as he works to save Camp Half-Blood and his best friend, Grover Underwood (Aryan Simhadri).
The main trio, including Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, will be joined by new and returning faces. Tamara Smart joins the cast as Thalia Grace, the daughter of Zeus. Familiar gods and camp leaders are also returning, with Jason Mantzoukas as Dionysus, Timothy Simons as Tantalus, and Lin-Manuel Miranda as Hermes. Following the passing of Lance Reddick, Courtney B. Vance has been recast as Zeus.
Big Changes Behind the Scenes
The production of Season 2 is notably different from the first. The new season takes the characters out of America and into the magical, dangerous Sea of Monsters. Executive producer Craig Silverstein explained that this shift required a major change in how the show was filmed.
โThis is not a road trip across America in Greyhound buses and stopping at diners and the St. Louis Arch โ they sail off the map, straight into the Sea of Monsters, which doesn’t exist. We had to create it,โ said Silverstein.
Instead of relying heavily on indoor sound stages with video walls, the production built large, practical sets. This includes the Princess Andromeda cruise ship and the jungle cave lair of the cyclops Polyphemus. Actor Aryan Simhadri confirmed that this approach makes the new season feel grander.
โAll of those arenโt things that you can replicate on a volume stage. Those have to be real. Those have to be grand. And it was just so insane seeing those come to life,โ Simhadri said.
Confidence from the Creator
Author and series creator Rick Riordan has expressed strong confidence in the new season. He has seen early cuts and believes the show is on the right track.
โWe’ve wrapped principal photography. We are in post-production. Everything’s going really well! I’ve seen cuts of the first two episodes. They are phenomenal, and that’s even without any special effects yet. I’m really pleased with it. I think the second season is going to be even better,โ Riordan shared.
How and When to Watch
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will premiere on December 10, 2025, on Disney+ and Hulu. The release will start with two episodes, followed by a new episode dropping every Wednesday. Alongside the show, Disney will launch new episodes of the official Percy Jackson podcast for behind-the-scenes content. The series has already been renewed for a third season, which is currently in production.
