A new documentary series about the rise and fall of music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will start streaming on December 2, 2025. The four-part project, titled Sean Combs: The Reckoning, is executive produced by his longtime rival, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and promises an in-depth look at the man behind the celebrity.

What the Documentary Covers

Sean Combs: The Reckoning is described as a deep examination of the media mogul, music legend, and convicted offender. The series will track his quick ascent in the music industry with Bad Boy Entertainment, which was crucial in bringing hip-hop to pop audiences and launching the careers of generation-defining artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, Jodeci, and Danity Kane.

However, the documentary also details how something darker began to color his ambitions. It explores the allegations and legal troubles that surfaced publicly after R&B singer Cassie Ventura filed a lawsuit against Combs in November 2023. The series uses exclusive interviews and never-before-seen materials to tell the story of the powerful empire Combs built and the underworld that lay beneath its surface.

The People Behind the Project

The docuseries is directed by Emmy Award-winning director Alexandria Stapleton and executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson through his G-Unit Film and Television production company. Jackson has been publicly critical of Combs for years and previously announced his intention to create a documentary on the allegations.

Director Alexandria Stapleton shared her perspective on the project, connecting it to broader cultural moments.

โ€œBeing a woman in the industry, and going through the #MeToo movement โ€” watching giants in music and film go on trialโ€ฆ When Cassie dropped her lawsuit, I just thought this could go a million different directions,โ€ says Stapleton. โ€œI wondered how she had the confidence to go out there against a mogul like Sean Combs. As a filmmaker, I instantly knew it was a stress test of whether weโ€™ve changed as a culture, as far as being able to process allegations like this in a fair way.”

Stapleton emphasized that the series aims to be more than just a story about Combs or the specific allegations.

โ€œThis isnโ€™t just about the story of Sean Combs or the story of Cassie, or the story of any of the victims, or the allegations against him, or the trial. Ultimately, this story is a mirror [reflecting us] as the public, and what we are saying when we put our celebrities on such a high pedestal. I hope [this documentary] is a wake-up call for how we idolize people, and to understand that everybody is a human being,โ€ Stapleton says.

Executive producer 50 Cent also released a statement, saying, โ€œIโ€™ve been committed to real storytelling for years through G-Unit Film and Television. Iโ€™m grateful to everyone who came forward and trusted us with their stories, and proud to have Alexandria Stapleton as the director on the project to bring this important story to the screen.โ€

Combs’ Current Legal Situation

Sean Combs is currently serving a federal prison sentence. In July 2025, he was found guilty on two counts of transportation for purposes of prostitution. He was acquitted on more serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. In October, he was sentenced to 50 months in prison, with a scheduled release date in May 2028. Combs is appealing his conviction and sentence.

A Cultural Moment

The documentary arrives at a time of intense public scrutiny of Combs. The teaser trailer for the series sets a dramatic tone, featuring a voiceover from former Bad Boy rapper Mark Curry, who says, โ€œYou canโ€™t continue to keep hurting people and nothing ever happens. Itโ€™s just a matter of time.โ€

Sean Combs: The Rebs The Reckoning will be available to stream globally on Netflix. All four episodes of the series will be released at once on December 2.
