The fourth episode of Surely Tomorrow turns a tense rescue into a turning point, as old fears and a stark class divide come between Lee Kyeong-do and Seo Ji-woo. This chapter moves past simple romance to show how care can hurt and how love is often tied to guilt. The story ends with a surprising moment of honesty that changes everything between the former lovers.
How Episode 4 of Surely Tomorrow Unfolds
The episode begins with Ji-woo waking up in a hospital. Her friend Se-young explains that Kyeong-do found her after she mixed pills with alcohol and brought her to safety. When he drives her home, his deep concern quickly turns to frustration and anger. He is scared and asks her why she keeps hurting herself.
Back at Ji-woo’s apartment, their emotions overflow. Kyeong-do pours all her alcohol down the sink, telling her that drinking will not fix her problems. Ji-woo feels controlled and judged. She tells him he does not get to decide how she copes and asks him to leave. Their fight feels raw and exhausting, showing how fragile their trust is.
Park Seo-jun, who plays Kyeong-do, and Won Ji-an, who plays Ji-woo, portray this difficult push-and-pull with powerful silence and loaded glances.
The next morning, the mood shifts. Ji-woo confronts Kyeong-do more calmly. In a quiet, tender, and awkward moment, he kneels to wash her feet. She pulls back, unsure how to accept this kind of care. He wants to look after her but is held back by his own feelings of not being good enough.
The Orange T-shirt Flashback and a Painful Past
A key flashback reveals the root of their troubles. Years ago, Ji-woo bought Kyeong-do a matching orange T-shirt. The shirt cost 300,000 won, a price that shocked him. He smiled and thanked her, but inside he felt ashamed. This moment made him painfully aware of the gap between their worldsโshe is from a wealthy family, and he is not.
The feeling got worse when he returned home and heard his mother happily say her entire monthly income was the same amount: 300,000 won. This class difference created an invisible wall. In another attempt to feel equal, Kyeong-do once borrowed money to take Ji-woo for an expensive pork cutlet dinner, instead of their usual cheap tteokbokki. This led to a huge fight where both confessed their pain and walked away in tears.
Another crucial flashback shows Kyeong-do’s own struggle. In 2017, he battled alcoholism. One night, drunk, he pushed his mother, causing her to fracture her arm. This horrific event forced him to get treatment and commit to sobriety. It also explains his intense fear and anger when he finds Ji-woo mixing alcohol and pills.
The Ending: A Bold Declaration
After a day of reflection, Ji-woo meets Kyeong-do at their old school sports field. She tells him she is leaving again, saying that the more he cares for her, the more confused she becomes. She adds that if he tries to stop her, it will mean he still has feelings for her.
Later, Kyeong-do goes to her home and finds her ex-husband causing a scene. The ex-husband directly asks Kyeong-do about his intentions. In a defining moment, Kyeong-do does not back down. He makes a bold statement.
He admits, “I’m doing my best to flirt with her”.
This honest declaration stuns both Ji-woo and her ex-husband. For the first time, Kyeong-do openly claims his place in her life without apology.
The episode ends with a powerful epilogue. It shows that Kyeong-do has kept the orange T-shirt Ji-woo gave him all these years, preserving it carefully. This quiet detail confirms that his love for her is something he has never truly let go.
