The journey to the neon glow of New Vegas is the central story for the cast of Fallout Season 2. Ella Purnell’s Lucy MacLean and Walton Goggins’ The Ghoul lead the pursuit of her villainous father, Hank MacLean, played by Kyle MacLachlan, who escaped in a stolen suit of Power Armor. This season introduces major figures from the video games, including Justin Theroux as Mr. House, and high-profile new actors like Macaulay Culkin and Kumail Nanjiani, who will face off against factions such as Caesar’s Legion and the New California Republic. Production wrapped in May 2025 after filming in California, where massive sets for the New Vegas Strip and Freeside were built, promising a faithful and expanded look at the post-apocalyptic Mojave Wasteland.

The Returning Core Cast and Their New Mission

The central trio from Season 1 is back, united by a common goal but carrying heavy personal baggage into the Mojave Desert.

Ella Purnell returns as Lucy MacLean, the idealistic Vault Dweller whose worldview was shattered in Season 1. She is no longer on a simple rescue mission. After learning her father, Hank, was a key architect of the apocalypse and being forced to mercy-kill her ghoulified mother, Lucy is now driven by a need for answers and justice. She is last seen teaming up with The Ghoul and her loyal cybernetic dog, Dogmeat, to track Hank to New Vegas.

Walton Goggins reprises his dual role as The Ghoul / Cooper Howard. As The Ghoul, he remains a cynical and deadly bounty hunter. However, his human past as actor Cooper Howard continues to haunt him. New flashbacks in Season 2 will show him learning the devastating truth about his wife Barb’s deep involvement with Vault-Tec’s plans.

โ€œW] pick up the season where we left off in the past, and that him finding out that his wife is one of the principal architects for the ending of the worldโ€ฆ His exploration for me was a guy who is just trying to make sense of the world,โ€ Goggins said.

Aaron Moten is back as Maximus, now officially a Knight of the Brotherhood of Steel. However, his promotion came under false pretenses, leaving him conflicted about his role. The influence of his friendship with Lucy continues to shape him. Moten notes that Season 2 shows “this great influence that Lucy is on Maximus,” changing his path within the Brotherhood.

Other key returning characters include:

  • Kyle MacLachlan as Hank MacLean: The season’s primary antagonist, a Vault-Tec executive who caused the destruction of Shady Sands and is now fleeing to New Vegas.
  • Moisรฉs Arias as Norm MacLean: Lucy’s brother, trapped in Vault 31 after uncovering its dark secret.
  • Xelia Mendes-Jones as Dane: Maximus’s friend, a Brotherhood Scribe whose role is expected to grow.

Major New Characters Joining the Wasteland

Season 2 expands the world by introducing pivotal characters from the Fallout games and adding intriguing new roles played by well-known actors.

Justin Theroux takes over the role of Robert Edwin House, the enigmatic CEO of RobCo Industries and the ruler of New Vegas. In the games, Mr. House is a preserved, centuries-old genius who controls the Strip from the Lucky 38 casino. He was briefly played by Rafi Silver in a Season 1 cameo, but Theroux will portray him in a more prominent story role. The official Season 2 trailer suggests the Ghoul had dealings with him before the war.

Macaulay Culkin joins in a recurring role described as a “crazy genius”-type character. While his character’s name is undisclosed, he appears briefly in the trailer and set photos suggest he may be affiliated with the brutal, Roman-inspired faction, Caesar’s Legion.

Kumail Nanjiani also joins the cast in an undisclosed role. In the trailer, he appears in a Brotherhood of Steel hangar, suggesting he may play a high-ranking officer or pilot within the faction.

A Look at the Expanded World and Factions

The shift in location to New Vegas brings with it new and familiar factions from the games, promising more complex conflicts.

  • Mr. House and the New Vegas Strip: As the sovereign ruler of the Strip, Mr. House represents a powerful, technology-based authority. His motivations and how he interacts with Lucy, the Ghoul, and Hank will be a major plot point.
  • Caesar’s Legion: Set photos have confirmed the appearance of this infamous slaver society, known for its brutality and ancient Roman aesthetics. Their presence in the Mojave will pose a significant threat.
  • The New California Republic (NCR): A democratic faction aiming to restore pre-war civilization. Leaked photos also show NCR soldiers, indicating they will have a role in the season’s conflicts.
  • The Brotherhood of Steel: This technologically obsessed military order remains a key player. With Maximus now a Knight and Kumail Nanjiani’s character potentially representing its leadership, the Brotherhood’s role in the Mojave power struggle will be significant.

The show’s creators have confirmed that deathclaws, one of the most iconic and fearsome creatures from the games, will finally appear in Season 2 after being saved from the first season.
