Bode Donovan’s life in Fire Country is set for a new spark of romance. As the show progresses through its fourth season, a figure from his past has re-emerged, hinting at a potential love story that’s both sweet and complicated. Showrunner Tia Napolitano has confirmed that Bode will explore a romantic connection with Chloe, a teacher he knew before his life took a turn for the worse. This new development arrives as Bode seeks stability after immense personal loss and trauma.

Chloe is a new character played by actress Alona Tal. She is not a random newcomer to Edgewater but someone with a history with Bode. According to Napolitano, Chloe is a teacher Bode knew from his youth, before he was involved in criminal activity and went to prison. They shared a mutual fondness and a crush that neither acted on at the time, missing their opportunity due to circumstances.

The casting of Alona Tal is a significant reunion for fans. Tal and Max Thieriot, who plays Bode, previously worked together on the military drama SEAL Team, where they portrayed a married couple. This existing chemistry influenced the creative process. Thieriot himself suggested Tal for the role after the character of Chloe was conceived.

โ€œMax just went, โ€˜Wait a minute, what if Alona could do it?โ€™โ€ Napolitano shared. โ€œAnd it turns out, not only would they let us do it, CBS was so excited about itโ€ฆ She said that acting with Max again was like riding a bike. Theyโ€™re lovely together, and Iโ€™m really enjoying them.โ€

The showrunner describes the dynamic between Bode and Chloe as uniquely “easy” and natural. Their shared past from a simpler time in Bode’s life creates a foundation of innocence and familiarity.

โ€œThe way that youโ€™ll see them together feels very easy,โ€ Napolitano explained. โ€œIt feels like people who knew each other in a past life because they sort of did. In our storytelling, they knew each other as kids, which brings a certain sweetness and a certain amount of wish fulfillment.โ€

This connection offers a different tone from Bode’s previous intense relationships. It explores the question of what happens when a childhood crush reappears in your life at a moment when you might both be available.

Despite the natural chemistry, this potential romance is far from straightforward and involves significant risk. The primary complication is Tyler, Chloe’s teenage son. Bode has taken Tyler under his wing, seeing similarities between the troubled teen and his own younger self. This mentorship creates a delicate situation where Bode’s role as a guide could clash with romantic feelings for Tyler’s mother.

A more dangerous obstacle is Landon, Chloe’s now-ex-boyfriend and Tyler’s abusive father figure. The midseason finale of Season 4 revealed a shocking twist: Landon was responsible for setting the Zabel Ridge fire, the blaze that killed Bode’s father, Vince Leone. This revelation makes Landon a deeply personal villain for Bode and directly ties Chloe’s story into the season’s major tragedy.

โ€œTalk about a bad guy,โ€ Napolitano stated. โ€œHeโ€™s abusive, heโ€™s Chloeโ€™s ex, and now heโ€™s involved in the fire. He was scary.โ€

With Landon as a looming threat, any relationship between Bode and Chloe will have to navigate these external dangers carefully.

The midseason finale, which aired December 19, 2025, ended with multiple characters in peril. Bode and Tyler were trapped together in the middle of a raging wildfire. Meanwhile, firefighter Jake Crawford and his half-brother Malcolm were involved in a dramatic firetruck crash. Landon’s fate is also uncertain following the reveal of his crimes.

Fire Country is now on a midseason break. New episodes of Season 4 are scheduled to return in February 2026. The series airs on CBS and is available for streaming on Paramount+.
