The critically acclaimed spy thriller The Night Manager is set to make a major comeback for its second season. After nearly a decade-long wait, fans will see Tom Hiddleston return as the enigmatic Jonathan Pine in a completely new mission.

This new chapter marks a significant shift for the series. For the first time, the story moves beyond the plot of John le Carré’s original 1993 novel to tell an original tale. The season will premiere at the start of 2026 with specific release dates for viewers in the UK and around the world.

Official Release Dates and Global Streaming Information

The release of The Night Manager Season 2 involves two different dates, depending on where you live.

For viewers in the United Kingdom, the series will debut first. All episodes will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer starting Thursday, January 1, 2026. The first episode will also air on BBC One at 9:00 PM on the same day.

For audiences in the United States, India, and across the globe (outside the UK), the series will be available exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. The global release is set for Sunday, January 11, 2026. Unlike the UK’s full-season drop, Prime Video will release the six-episode season in a weekly format.

  • Episodes 1, 2, and 3 will be released together on January 11, 2026.
  • Episode 4 arrives on January 18, 2026.
  • Episode 5 arrives on January 25, 2026.
  • Episode 6, the season finale, arrives on February 1, 2026.

The New Mission: Plot and Story Details for Season 2

The story picks up eight years after the explosive events of the first season. Jonathan Pine, now living under the alias Alex Goodwin, has left the world of luxury hotels behind. He works a quiet, low-level job running an MI6 surveillance unit in London, hoping his dangerous past is buried for good.

Pine’s calm life shatters when a chance sighting of a mercenary from his old enemy Richard Roper’s network pulls him back into the field. This encounter violently throws him into the path of a new threat: Teddy Dos Santos, a powerful and ambitious Colombian businessman played by Diego Calva.

“As allegiances splinter, Pine races to expose a conspiracy designed to destabilise a nation. And with betrayal at every turn, he must decide whose trust he needs to earn and how far he’s willing to go before it’s too late,” states the official BBC synopsis.

To infiltrate Dos Santos’s arms operation, Pine must turn to Roxana Bolaños, a sharp businesswoman played by Camila Morrone, who becomes his reluctant ally and guide into the dangerous Colombian underworld. The mission plunges Pine into a deadly plot involving arms trafficking and the training of a guerrilla army.

Returning Favorites and New Faces in the Season 2 Cast

The cast for the new season blends beloved original stars with exciting new talent.

Tom Hiddleston leads the returning cast, reprising his Golden Globe-winning role as Jonathan Pine. Olivia Colman is back as the determined intelligence operative Angela Burr. Several other key figures from Pine’s past return, including:

  • Alistair Petrie as Sandy Langbourne
  • Douglas Hodge as Rex Mayhew
  • Michael Nardone as Frisky
  • Noah Jupe as Daniel “Danny” Roper

Notably, Hugh Laurie, who played the iconic villain Richard Roper in Season 1, is not returning as an actor for this season. However, he has joined the project behind the scenes as an executive producer. His character’s fate remains one of the lingering mysteries from the first season.

The new cast members entering the world of espionage include:

  • Indira Varma as a character named Mayra
  • Paul Chahidi as Basil
  • Hayley Squires as Sally

Behind the Scenes: New Director and Global Production

The second season features significant changes in its creative leadership. While series creator David Farr returns as writer and executive producer, a new director has taken the helm. Georgi Banks-Davies, a BAFTA-winning director known for I Hate Suzie, is directing all episodes of the new season.

The production scope is truly international, reflecting the global nature of the story. Filming took place across multiple countries over nearly six months, from June to December 2024. Key locations included London, Spain, France, and Colombia. Producers have emphasized that the story is deeply connected to its Colombian setting, with the head of production at The Ink Factory noting that “more than 75% of the story is about Colombia”.

The series is a co-production between the BBC and Amazon Prime Video, with Prime Video taking over from AMC as the international partner. The production companies involved include The Ink Factory, Demarest Films, and Nostromo Pictures.
