The 2026 Guild of Music Supervisors Awards nominations have been announced, and Ryan Coogler’s hit film ‘Sinners’ stands as the top contender. The horror-musical earned three total nominations, more than any other film at the 16th annual awards show.
These nominations honor both the film’s overall music supervision and two of its standout original songs. The awards ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, February 28, 2026, at The Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles.
The Specific Nominations for ‘Sinners’
The film’s success with the Guild is spread across two key categories. Niki Sherrod, the music supervisor for ‘Sinners,’ is nominated for Best Music Supervision in Major Budget Films.
She will compete against other major releases including ‘A Minecraft Movie,’ ‘The Running Man,’ ‘Wicked: For Good,’ and ‘F1’.
The film also secured two spots in the highly competitive Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film category. The nominated tracks are:
- “I Lied to You” – Written by Ludwig Gรถransson and Raphael Saadiq, and performed by Miles Caton.
- “Last Time (I Seen the Sun)” – Written by Miles Caton, Ludwig Gรถransson, and Alice Smith, and performed by Caton, Gรถransson, and Smith.
Both songs are also currently on the Oscar shortlist for Best Original Song, with the Academy Award nominations to be announced on January 22, 2026.
Major Competition and Other Notable Nominees
While ‘Sinners’ leads, several other prominent films and supervisors earned multiple nominations.
The sports film ‘F1’ received two nominations. It is up against ‘Sinners’ for Best Music Supervision in Major Budget Films, and its song “Just Keep Watching” (performed by Tate McRae) is a fellow nominee for Best Song.
Supervisor Gabe Hilfer emerged as the most nominated individual, earning four total nominations across different projects. These include his work on ‘A Minecraft Movie’ (Major Budget Film) and ‘Marty Supreme’ (Mid-Level Budget Film).
Other notable film nominees include ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy,’ ‘Materialists,’ and the documentary ‘Diane Warren: Relentless,’ which also has its song “Dear Me” (performed by Kesha) nominated for Best Song.
A Celebration of the Music Supervision Craft
The Guild of Music Supervisors Awards exist to highlight the essential and often behind-the-scenes work of music supervisors. These professionals serve as the crucial link between a project’s creative vision and its soundtrack, handling everything from song selection and licensing to collaborating with composers and directors.
Guild president Lindsay Wolfington and vice president Heather Guibert released a statement celebrating the nominated work. They noted they were “excited to see an abundance of great work from the music supervision community”.
The awards cover a wide range of media beyond film, including television, documentaries, advertising, video game trailers, and video games themselves. For example, in the video game category, supervisor Allison Wood was nominated for her work on a project for iRacing, sharing her excitement and gratitude on social media.

How to Watch the 2026 GMS Awards
The awards gala at The Wiltern in Los Angeles offers both in-person and virtual attendance options. Tickets for the live event are available for purchase.
For those who cannot attend in person, the Guild is offering a Virtual Experience that includes a live stream of the ceremony and a virtual happy hour for networking. This provides a global audience the chance to watch the winners being announced.
The timing of the Guild awards is particularly notable in the broader awards season. The ceremony on February 28 falls during the final voting period for the Oscars, which runs from February 26 to March 5, 2026. This makes the Guild’s recognition a significant and timely indicator of industry support for films and songs also in the Oscar race.
