Netflix’s new four-part adaptation of Lord of the Flies arrived on May 4, 2026, and viewers are already asking the big question: does Jack die by the end of the show? The short answer is no—Jack survives. But the journey to rescue is brutal, bloody, and leaves deep scars on every boy who walks off that island.

The series, written by Emmy-winner Jack Thorne (“Adolescence”) and directed by Marc Munden, stays mostly faithful to William Golding’s classic 1954 novel while adding fresh emotional depth. With music from Hans Zimmer, this adaptation marks the first time the story has been told as a television series rather than a movie.

Jack’s Fate: The Power-Hungry Leader Makes It Off the Island

Lox Pratt, who plays Jack, confirmed through the show’s ending that his character survives. In the final episode titled “Ralph,” Jack orders his hunters to set the island on fire to force Ralph out of hiding. The blaze spreads quickly, turning their once-beautiful home into a smoky nightmare. Ralph runs toward the beach and finds British Navy officers who saw the fire from their ship.

The officers arrive just as Jack’s tribe storms the shore, faces painted and spears ready. An officer jokes about the boys playing “war” and asks if there were any casualties. Ralph breaks down and admits two boys died—Piggy and Simon.

Jack stands frozen. The same boy who demanded power and control is left speechless. He survives, but his innocence does not.

Here is the full list of which characters live and who dies in Netflix’s 2026 Lord of the Flies:

  • Jack – Survives
  • Ralph – Survives
  • Roger – Survives
  • Piggy – Dies
  • Simon – Dies

Piggy (played by David McKenna) gets killed by Roger (Thomas Connor), who drops a boulder on his head. The show changes the book’s instant death scene—Piggy stays alive for a while, and Ralph drags him through the forest before he finally dies. Ralph buries his friend in a shallow grave.

Simon (Ike Talbut) dies earlier after the boys mistake him for the beast. Jack’s tribe stabs him during a chaotic nighttime storm, another tragic loss for the group.

The body count shows how quickly the boys’ civilization falls apart.

Main Cast of the 2026 Netflix Series

The young cast delivers powerful performances throughout the show’s four episodes:

  • Winston Sawyers as Ralph
  • Lox Pratt as Jack
  • David McKenna as Piggy (given the real name Nicky in this version)
  • Ike Talbut as Simon
  • Thomas Connor as Roger
  • Noah and Cassius Flemyng as the twins Sam and Eric

More than 30 other boys play the “biguns” and “littluns” on the island.

How the Rescue Plays Out

In the final minutes, the British Navy officer finds Ralph on the beach. Jack and his hunters run out screaming, ready to kill. But the officer’s presence stops everything. The wild, painted boys suddenly look like normal schoolchildren again.

Ralph cries while explaining the deaths. Jack stays silent. The officer takes all the boys onto his ship, leaving the burning island behind. The show ends without a happy resolution—just survivors carrying trauma they cannot undo.

Jack Thorne, the show’s writer, explained that he wanted Ralph to fully understand Piggy’s value before the rescue. That is why Piggy’s death scene lasts longer in the series than in the book.
