The second season of Beef just started streaming on Netflix on April 16, 2026, and fans already want to know if more episodes are coming. The show’s creator Lee Sung Jin has given different answers about a possible third season, leaving viewers with both good and bad news.

Season 2 features a new cast with Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny in the lead roles. The first season, which came out in April 2023, won many awards including eight Emmy Awards and three Golden Globes. Ali Wong and Steven Yeun won acting awards for their roles in the first season.

No Official Confirmation From Netflix Yet

Beef Season 3 has not been officially confirmed by Netflix at this time. The streaming platform has not made any announcement about renewing the show for another season. The series started as a limited series, but after its big success, Netflix ordered a second season.

There was a three-year gap between the first and second seasons. Season 1 arrived in April 2023, and Season 2 came out in April 2026. If Netflix does approve Beef Season 3, fans might have to wait until 2028 or 2029 based on this pattern.

Lee Sung Jin’s Changing Statements About Season 3

The show’s creator has shared different thoughts about continuing the series. Back in 2023, Lee Sung Jin told Rolling Stone that he had plans for more seasons.

“I have one really big general idea that I can’t really say yet, but I have three seasons mapped out in my head currently,” Lee Sung Jin said in 2023.

He also explained that he wanted the first season to have a complete ending just in case the show did not come back. But he added that he had many ideas to keep the story going.

At the Beef Season 2 premiere in April 2026, Lee Sung Jin gave a different answer. He said he was “perfectly happy with this being the last season.” But he also left the door open.

“If the universe shoves something else in my face that I have to respond to, I’m always trying to remain open,” Lee Sung Jin said at the premiere.

He also said he planned to go home to his one-year-old daughter and get some sleep after working on the show for three years.

The Anthology Format Means New Cast Each Season

Lee Sung Jin has always seen Beef as an anthology series. This means each season tells a new story with different characters. The only thing that connects the seasons is the theme of people having conflicts or “beef” with each other.

“I always thought a show called Beef — where every season there are new characters, there’s a new ‘beef’ — would be fun,” Lee Sung Jin explained to Variety in May 2024.

If Beef Season 3 happens, it will likely have a completely new cast and a new setting. This is similar to other anthology shows like The White Lotus or American Horror Story.

Season 2 continues the anthology format. The story follows a young Gen Z couple played by Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny who get caught in a fight between their older employees, played by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan. The cast also includes Youn Yuh-jung from Minari and Song Kang-ho from Parasite.

What Inspired Both Seasons

Lee Sung Jin shared at a recent event at the University of Pennsylvania that real-life events inspired both seasons. The first season’s opening scene came from a road rage accident he was in. The second season took ideas from an argument he overheard in his neighborhood.

“That dichotomy of perspective when it comes to love and marriage I thought was fascinating,” Lee Sung Jin said during the discussion.

He explained that younger Gen Z viewers react very differently to certain scenes compared to Millennial and Gen X viewers.

Lee’s Current Projects and Netflix Deal

Lee Sung Jin recently renewed his overall deal with Netflix. He first signed this deal in 2023. This means he will keep making content for the streaming platform even if Beef Season 3 does not happen right away.

Lee Sung Jin is also working on the script for the upcoming X-Men reboot. He told Variety in April 2026 that he is a big fan of the comics and feels honored to be part of that project.

Season 2 Reviews and Reception

Beef Season 2 has received positive reviews from critics. The show holds an 86% “certified fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The audience score is 63% on the Popcornmeter.

The second season has eight episodes, the same number as the first season. The show continues to explore themes of anger, personal conflicts, and unexpected connections between people.

What This Means for Viewers

Fans who want Beef Season 3 should not expect any news soon. Netflix has not said anything about renewing the show. Lee Sung Jin‘s comments show he is taking a break after finishing Season 2.

The three-year gap between Season 1 and Season 2 shows that making this show takes time. Each season needs new actors, new locations, and new stories. This is different from regular TV shows that use the same cast every year.

Both seasons of Beef are available to stream on Netflix right now. New viewers can start with Season 1, which many critics call one of the best shows of 2023. Fans who have already watched both seasons will have to wait for any official news about Beef Season 3.
